I have been making melt & pour soap on and off for several years as just a hobby with my kids. I just fell in love with a homemade soap that I bought in Vermont and decided to start taking this hobby a little more seriously. I'm looking at different recipes and noticed some use lye. I see that you have to be extremely careful (as it could potentially dangerous!?) and it sounds like kind of too harsh to use on skin. So what are the benefits of using lye? Thanks.
