Guest guest
And then there's the question of how many gunslingers/bank robbers there really were -- maybe all those movies are based on the boys, the Daltons, Wild Bill Hickock, Pat Garrett, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, the Kid, and a few others who made headlines. Oh -- and Bat Masterson, who was shot in the penis and ended up a sports writer & editor from 1883 till he died (from a heart attack at his desk) in 1921. Wikipedia has some interesting stuff, though they caution that part of the discussion has no references. Here are some interesting quotes from Bat Masterson (who in his later life hung out w/Damon Runyan): a.. " Every dog, we are told, has his day, unless there are more dogs than days. " a.. " New York is the biggest boobtown there is. They will buy any damned thing here. " a.. " If you want to hit a man in the chest, aim for his groin. " a.. " When a man is at the racetrack he roars longer and louder over the twenty-five cents he loses through the hole in the bottom of his pocket than he does over the $25 he loses through the hole in the top of his pocket. " a.. " There are those who argue that everything breaks even in this old dump of a world of ours. I suppose these ginks who argue that way hold that because the rich man gets ice in the summer and the poor man gets it in the winter things are breaking even for both. Maybe so, but I'll swear I can't see it that way. " Ann Re: Best results with over the >counter medication > > I was told by my doctor to rotate what medicine I take. Guest guest
Congrats on getting married. That is wonderful that you found someone that cares and understands!!!! Yes I have tried to educate him. His cousin has fibro and she talked to him but his compassion lasted about a week. I had 4 surgeries all within 18 months and every one of them I had to take care of myself (including hysterectomy) My kids were a big help though. My husband just mocks me and expects me to come home and do things because of my high pain tolerance. He doesn't get that I can harm myself by not listening to doctor's orders. And in reference to your job situation... My husband was actually fired from his job (but he fought it and got it back) for so called sick abuse. He took an FMLA once for my surgery (even though it was more of a vacation to him), and he had his gallbladder removed and he did take off each day of my surgery. They claimed it was a pattern. He has so many sick days on the books and he coordinated his days off with my surgery days. He is a correctional officer and he was treated worse than the inmates. It is crazy. Re: Best results with over the counter medication I was told by my doctor to rotate what medicine I take. Aleve works best for me but I alternate it with motrin and advil as advised. Guest guest
I can't remember whether I posted this before -- I'm not getting my own posts. When I was in the hosp. recently (one day) for a heart cath, my ex came in 3 times. Each time he got more & more angry over something (I think it was that he didn't want to spend the $10 to get me home or to come get me once I'm allowed to drive, to get my car, which I left at the hospital). He didn't give me a chance to offer to pay him back. The 3rd time, he was SHOUTING at me really loud, and incomprehensible and disturbing everyone -- all the rooms were just curtains -- and flailing his arms, and I was a little afraid he might lunge at me while I was trying to make sure my femoral artery didn't hemorrhage. So I asked the nurses to get Security (which they were very happy to do) & throw him out. They also threw him off the grounds & told him never to come back. He's never been that bad before, but he's always been very tight -- with money, with emotion, with time. That's why he's my EX. Fortunately I'm immune to him now, so I didn't take his shouting personally. Still not sure what it was about, but then, I haven't heard from him, either (mind you, I can only hear from him via e-mail -- if he called me, it would cost 50 cents, which would prevent his earning interest on that in the future (he's worth a million $$ or more)). Can you imagine him staying at my place & contributing anything at all to my care? I would hear nothing but criticism. Where are all the good ones? One of them is my next door neighbor, but he's happily married. Even so, he's done more for me in the 2 years I've known him than my ex ever did. Not to trash men in general -- I'm sure many men here are nice. But there are a whole bunch who aren't. Guest guest
Hi Ann, I wanted to let you know there are good guys out there! My husband has been through a lot with me and is still so supportive. We have been married 22 years... In One year he went through 5 knee surgeries with me. Then most reciently, I had to have bone harvested from my pelvis to put in my knee... I then fractured my pelvis because the bone graph site was so large that it weakened my pelvis. Now 4 pelvis surgeries later, I'm left with chronic pain, neuromas, and walk with a cane. I use to be an extremely active middle aged woman, but not now. I guess he really meant his vows... For better, for worse, in sickness and in health. I thank God I met him his first term at Penn State and my second term. He's my rock. Donna >I can't remember whether I posted this before -- I'm not getting my own >posts. Guest guest
Oh, good. Is it better later in life? I can remember when I was about 23, with a newborn -- very colicky -- baby and it seemed everyone was turning 50 and saying " I can't believe I'm in my 50's, I feel so young, I feel like I'm in my early 20's! " And I was just relieved because I was in my early 20's and felt ancient (lack of sleep will do that) and was so glad to learn that at some time in my life I would get to feel like I was in my early 20's and it wouldn't involve sleep deprivation and the frustrations of an unsatisfiable baby. Now that my 50's are nearing and my knees are worn out and my allergies are driving me crazy and I'm learning that I've had ADHD all of my life I suspect that I never will have that boundless energy and enthusiasm back again. But I'd like to think someone is getting to enjoy it. I wonder if I'll get a reprieve around age 70? Luci Ann <ruby2zdy@...> wrote: I'm an old person having a mid-life crisis. Guest guest
Oh, good. Is it better later in life? I've been having this mid-life crisis for about 20 yrs now. It's just like men's -- They want to impress younger women and I want to impress younger men, but for any man under 55, 65 is roadkill. Even 60. A mere 6 years ago I got away with dating a man who was 41 until he got a peek at some document he shouldn't have been looking at & saw my birth date. Then he (this is so clever of them) set things up so I'd get angry, with his response being to stonewall me, so I'd break up with him. However, if you're going to have a mid-life crisis, it's better if you're retired, because you can sleep till noon, by which time you're so late starting the day that you don't have time to noodle over it. I can remember when I was about 23, with a newborn -- very colicky -- baby and it seemed everyone was turning 50 and saying " I can't believe I'm in my 50's, I feel so young, I feel like I'm in my early 20's! Now that my 50's are nearing and my knees are worn out and my allergies are driving me crazy and I'm learning that I've had ADHD all of my life I suspect that I never will have that boundless energy and enthusiasm back again. Boundless ... I never had that. But I did have more energy than I do now. I think it's the pain -- I have a torn meniscus in my L knee that was " fixed " last year and needs fixing again, and my S-I joint is irritable for some reason. But I'd like to think someone is getting to enjoy it. I wonder if I'll get a reprieve around age 70? I hope so, or earlier. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Congratulations on " catching and keeping " one of the good ones out there! I pray for a healing for you for all you have been through. I found one of the good ones too! Max and I just got married Thurs. 5/31 after being together for almost 3 yrs. I have a lot of health issue's and he has from day 1 understood, supported and took care of me when I couldn't even get out of bed. I am still reeling that I have someone who loves me so much despite all my health problems.
