Thanks JoAnn. I may give the Benadryl a try, but I have used it before and I

have a very difficult time even waking up…it makes me too drowsy! I don’t

want a narcotic pain med…I just want something to make my knees and hip stop

hurting so I can get some sleep. My typical routine is 4 Advil (or generic

equivalent) when I go to bed around 11 pm…I wake up between 1:30-2:30 am and

take 4 more because it hurts so badly. Neither doses dull it much, but in

hopes of getting rid of at least some pain, I do it anyway. During the day,

after taking that much in a few hours, I can only take 4 more total for the

24 hours. I mostly just buck up and take the pain now, since the Advil

doesn’t work. I’m not sleeping, so I have to be extra careful at work to not

screw up what I’m doing. Fortunately, nobody’s life depends on me…just the

newsletter and Sunday Folder (I work at my church) and whatever other

projects I am given. I love spell check!

Hi Joi,

Sorry you had such a bad doctor visit.

They can really un-sympathetic sometimes. Don't give up. Try to get

another opinion.

If I over do it at work and the pain is bad when I go to bed, I take

benadryl 50mg and it helps me sleep. Some times it's bad enough to

have to take a vicodin with it. I try not to take too many narcotics

though. I have heard how addicting Vicodin can be. My doctor gave me

ultram too. It's a non-narcotic pain med. I have peptic ulcer disease

so I can't take anti-inflamatories which help the most, so ultram is

te next best thing for me.

I hope you can find a better doctor who will listen to you.

By the way I have been taking my daily walks. The dogs like it and I

must admit even though it hurts a bit I feel better after walking.

Take care, JoAnn

Benadryl should only work for about 4 hrs. You may be extra sensitive to it.

I'd say allergic, but it's an antihistamine.
