Guest guest
Usually the big advantage is it is not as controlled as morphine in many countries, hence it is available when MS is not. And unfortunatly the rest of the world has not woken up to the benefits of penthrane, so I would not expect to see it used much in Ozzieland. Guest guest
Thanks Jim That's what I thought! But just wanted to see if anyone thought there were any clinical advantages of nubain over morphine as opposed to the administrative ones. Penthrane is used a lot down under however I would never consider it a replacement for IV pain relief. Great for extremely short term pain relief? Guest guest
Hi All Just to shoot down that slur on my home land both Methoxyflurane and Nubain are both in use commonly in Australia in different areas. Both are used in the ADF mainly Army and Navy. But both are also used in the hospital system A & E and OT (OR for the Yanks & Pomies.) Methoxy is used by Several Ambulance services in Australia as well. Australia stopped being a provincial colony around 104 years ago I think. Guest guest
Well, MS is really the gold standard. Accept no substitute, ask for it by name. That being said, there is an interesting web page from the Oxford pain internet site called which lists the Oxford league table of analgesics in acute pain. http://www.jr2.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/booth/painpag/Acutrev/Analgesics/Leagtab.h tml Also Virtual <http://www.virtual-anaesthesia-textbook.com/vat/non_narcotics.html> Anaesthesia Textbook - Non-Opioid/Narcotic Analgesics My only experience with Nubain is when my wife got it while in labor! Guest guest
(Beating against head) What I meant to say was I wouldn't expect to see Nubain used as much in Australia since you have penthrane (Methoxyflurane). It's the rest of the world that hasn't woken up to what is going on down under that is the problem. I stand corrected on the Nubain.
