Guest guest
I have remelted lotion and then mixed/emulsified again with some success, it can work, worth a shot not to waste...but dont be surprised it if won't. I have done beeswax lotion and some stayed emulsified, some did not. some the beeswax has a tendency to emulsify, but have hard wax pellets throughout... I stick with Ewax and stearic, or liquid poly as emulsifiers.. I never have separation issues with them.
Guest guest
Oh my..What a mess ,bless your heart...Thats why this ole gal sticks to the multi base lotion...its so thick, like crisco, when it comes in.All I have to do is measure 1/2 cup of multi base,my FO and distilled water, and a drop or 2 of Olive oil,mix it all together and VIOLA,body butters, body lotion, body creams, and Body Milk....love that stuff....It already comes with the germaben in it for a perservative..How cool is that??? I wish I could help you,but I do not mix up my lotions like that...Hope you get it figured out soon..That can get exspencive for you...HUGS,vicky
Guest guest
Hi Blandina, I'm new to making lotions also and I've uses beeswax and borax for my emulsifier a couple of times. AS I understand, beeswax alone will help thicken a lotion, but it won't emulsify. To use beeswax as your emulsifier you need to have the borax also. So you might not be able to save this batch; I'd play with it though before giving up completely. Sherry Barker has posted a couple messages here about the beeswax/borax combination. Maybe if you do a search by her name you'll be able to find them. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I think the ratio is 1/4 tsp. borax to 2 oz beeswax. Guest guest
Balinda Your recipe you posted did not include borax and without that there can be no emulsion because beeswax needs borax to form an emulsion that will bind the oil and water parts of the lotion. I wrote an article for our List Mom here, and it is on her website, and is in my New Advanced Creama and Lotion Ebook , take a look at it and it should help you make a lotion that is not greasy and will not seperate, just click on the URL below http://www.glenbrookfarm.com/makinglotions.htm hope this helps, Sherry Natural Care E-books, booklets, spreadsheets www.herbalsoap-healingcreams.com

Guest guest
--- Hello there, I was reading your email and while everyone that actually makes lotions has a different recipe, you should always start off with something easy, if you are a beginner. By easy I mean, only use products that you know exactly what their primary use is for. Here is something easy and low cost that I submitted to a soap teaching website: Makes about three 8oz jars. Effects are long lasting moisture, even after washing hands. Long lasting fragrance! Places a nice shine on the skin. Mango Butter is extracted from the fruit kernels of the Mango tree. This Butter is highly moisturizing, is high in antioxidants and sources indicate that it can provide some sunshield abilities. This lotion simply flys off my shelf. Directions: In a 32 oz container combine first set of ingredients and heat in the microwave until just melted. Add Mango Butter and Shea Oil. Allow to naturally melt in oils. In a 16 oz container, heat water for 1 minute. Stirring as you pour, add water to first set of ingredients. Blend this with a stick blender on low, in pulses. The mixture will start to thicken. When the lotion has started to thicken, add Phenonip and stir. Add fragrance and stir. Pour into bottles. Let sit overnight. Recipes: First Set of Ingredients: 1.7oz of Sweet Almond Oil 1 oz of Stearic Acid 1 oz of Avocado Oil 2 oz of Emulsifying Wax Second Set of Ingredients: 2 oz. Mango Butter 16 oz. Distilled Water (heated - not boiled)) ..1 oz Shea Oil ..2 oz Phenonip(Preservative) ..1 oz Woodland Pear Fragrance (or fragrance oil of choice). Guest guest
That sounds like an easy lotion recipe. This summer I’d like to try my hand at a “from scratch” lotion. Maybe I’ll use this one. One question- Can anything be substituted for the mango butter? I don’t have any. I have cocoa and shea butters but no mango. I guess cocoa butter probably can’t be subbed in b/c its hard? But what about using more shea instead? Something like that? I have every other ingredient so that’s why it would great to not order anything else to try it. Thanks for sharing! Guest guest
Sure you can use Shea Butter. I just use Mango in a lot of my products because it's more moisturizing in the finished product. Guest guest
Thanks. I’ll get some mango butter sometime but since I have all the other ingredients just thought I’d make it sometime with out mango. Can’t wait to try it. sounds easy. Are there any tips about this recipe or any lotion recipe that I should know as a first time lotion from scratch maker? Guest guest
Well the only tip that I can tell you is WHIP! WHIP! WHIP! Make sure you use your stick blender and make it extra smooth. Even when you think you've whipped it enough, blend it some more. Your finished product will be wonderful! Also with the stearic acid...you can use what is on the recipe, but lately I've been using a little less than that. The acid is basically a thickner. So too much of it--- your product will be difficult to come out of your lotion bottles. In , " Kim Godlewski " <kim@...> wrote: > > Thanks.
