Guest guest
Hello everyone. I can't seem to get the McConnell taping right when I do it on my own -- partly it's because I think I'm too scared to even touch the left kneecap. I've just been to a new physiotherapist and she suggested that I tape the knee differently -- in a " Y " . Essentially the bit of the tape where the " Y " branches out is at the bottom of the patella 'diamond', with the sides of the " Y " on either edge of the kneecap. Then I put 'stablising' tape one inch above, and one inch below the knee. There isn't actually any tape on the kneecap itself. I've not explained this very well, I know, but I hope you get me. So far I've only tried it once and I get some relief when I do my exercises, although the knee does not feel as stable as when my physio does the McConnell taping for me. I wondered whether any of you have tried taping in this way, and what kind of results you got? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Kimi, After my lateral release, my PT guy did McConnell taping for a couple of times, and since it seemed to help, he suggested that I get a knee trakker brace. This is an open patella brace that has a buttress that works like the taping. THe one I got can be used for either lateral or medial " pull " . I paid a lot for it (well, the insurance did ) but have since found this website where I think you can get them at about 1/3 the cost. The brace allows me to fasten it as loose or as tight as I need it. I have no affiliation with this company.... http://claflinequip.com/medical/corflex-target-knee-o-trakker-.htm nne " Y " taping (?) Guest guest
Hi nne, Thanks again for the help, I'm going to get myself those braces! I have a pair of " J " braces with the opening over the patella (from the person who fitted me for orthotics). I showed them to my new physiotherapist, who said that she was a bit 'confused' as to why I was given those, because they appeared to be pushing my kneecaps, which already glide inward, even further in the same direction. So I think the ones that can be used for either lateral or medial pull will be so much better. Thank you.
