Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a decent first aid trainer's course, ideally in the

South of England (nothing against you Northerners, mind!).

Cheers,

Tom Watkinson

Tom

Contact Wilderness Expertise, Crowthorne, Berks. They run instructor schemes

for Rescue Emergency Care of Aberdeen. 01344 774430

You need an HSE FAW cert, plus advanced first aid cert, EMT-B or similar to

do the course.

Yes, they were ok. It is basicly a 4 day First Aid at Work course, at the

same time doing training techniques. You need to be up to speed on first aid

before hand.......although I had some people on my course who seemed a bit

slow on the first aid bits... but at the end of the course you have a FAAW

cert and also an instructors cert, plus the notes and cd with slides on.

When you run first course they send an assessor out to you on the last day.

I am going to confirm it, but I think the cost was about £500. I looked on

their web site but it is getting redesigned www.nucotraining.co.uk

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for that. I've been in touch with them but as per usual, their

available dates are when I'm at work in Algeria.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

You might want to try AON Ocupational Health in Aberdeen.

While on the topic of First Aid Training. I have been approached to

carry out First Aid Training for Electricians/Instruments Techs on the

platform, in accordance with the Electricity at Work Act and supply them

with Certificates of Competency.

I am an Approved HSE First Aid Instructor/Examiner having worked for many

of the different Training agencies in the past, but have never been

approached to Carry out this type of Training.

However I believe that I can not carry out this Training and issue

Comptency Certificates because of the following reasons.

1. I cannot teach and examine the same persons.

2. The platform is not a recognised Training Centre.

3. We can only carry out Refresher Training for those who have

previously attended an approved course and have a certificate.

Anyone out there that can point me in the right direction

I will all depend on wheter the company want local recognised or nationaly

recognised certification. If they just want local certification, then as

long as you are qualified to provide and assess the skills you can class

them as competent on that particular platform with a certificate that states

the same, if they want nationaly, then as you say you will need the outside

assessors to verify competency, as well as notifying HSE etc.

The building/establishment doesnt need to be classed as a training centre,

you bring that 'classification' with you as an instructor

Hope this is ok for you.

Neil,

I do training for 2nd man electrical, no cert required to be issued,

although noted in the training records for them, should be done every 2

years, usually only BLS.

Any other training carried out by request especially for Fire Team members

and so forth, againg no certs issued only recorded by date and subject

taught.

Hi ,

good to see you are still about, I had heard that you had

moved out to Cyprus. All our Operators/Techs are currently going

through a Comptency Training Programme, and part of this is obtaining

aCertificates of Competency. I fully agree with what you say, I have done

this in the past, put this is something different.

Well 9 days to go and then it is home to Sunny Spain, where I moved to 3

years ago. You can contact me at either

We have the same thing at my place of work. Scene safety, BLS and what to do

to get the emergency services there.

All recorded on training records. No certs but if you are registered with a

company(such as NUCO) you may be able to issue an attendance at training

cert for portfolio purposes.

Cheers

Rod

Re: First aid trainer courses

Neil,

I do training for 2nd man electrical, no cert required to be issued,

although noted in the training records for them, should be done every 2

years, usually only BLS.

Any other training carried out by request especially for Fire Team members

and so forth, againg no certs issued only recorded by date and subject

taught.
