I've seen recipes for body powders that contain orris root.

Haven't madae any yet, though, so someone else will have to take the " why "

on that one.

Orris root is a great scent absorber, and it holds scent extremely well. It

is wonderful for potpourri...but in my opinion, not for use in soap or

toiletries. There are people that disagree with me. That's what makes lists

like this one so great! LOL!

no. as has been said several times, it is a strong sensitizer (allergen)

It has no use in bodycare products.

Dear Gail,

A friend and I were discussing Orris root yesterday. I believe it is a fixative

to prolong aroma used in products as well as candles and potpourri. A friend of

mine that is a soaper in Hawaii uses it in her soaps.

Hope this helps!

Subject: Orris root

Orris root was among the ingredients listed on a bath bomb at a local

shop. Is anyone familiar with this purpose for orris root? Good

idea ... or not?

Thanks!

Gail

far as I know its a fixative just the same as other natural fixatives.

Lesle, thanks for your response.

Yes, it was my understanding as well that orris root was used as a fragrance

fixative

in potpourri. Somewhat surprising to see it included as a bath bomb ingredient.

I

was wondering if others used it in a body care formula; and if it was safe and

effective. Any ideas for percentage?

A brief note that I found said that orris root smelled like violets. Did your

friend in

Hawaii mention its scent?

I'm intrigued by what is a new ingredient for me. I'd love to hear of any

experiences

with orris root.

Dear Gail,

I'll give my friend a call this weekend to find out more about Orris root.

Sorry for the repeat messages yesterday. I believe my computer is on its last

leg.

I'll be in touch soon!

Hi All,

I have a sample of Orris Root CO2 extract which out of the vial has

only a faint, musty smell. I tinctured it in 190 proof at about 20%

and after maybe two or three months, just as someone on this list

predicted, the tincture has the most lovely, delicately sweet

fragrance.
