Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

I read somewhere last week that natrasorb is tapioca flour..... I think.

Natrasorb

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has actually used the Natrasorb 100 from Snow Drift

Farms and if it worked really well? Did it feel gritty?

Do you think cornstarch or arrow root powder would do the same thing??

They say on the site that it is modified wheat starch.

Thanks so much for any help,

Mindy

When a cream or lotion seems too greasy, I will add a little bit of

natrasorb and that will take away the greasy feeling. I got my natrasorb

from Snowdrift Farms, but if you have an Asian market near you buy some

tapioca flour that is the same thing.

There you go... I knew I remembered it!

actually it is a modified wheat starch, according to Snowdrift. It is quite

soft. Not gritty at all. Powderly light. Love it!

Hi Listbuds;

When I first heard about natrasorb from someone on this list, I went to

Google and did a search. Everything that I came up with on natrasorb said

that it was tapioca starch.I must have read over 50 different sites on it.

Then I went to Snowdrift Farms and they state that it is wheat starch. Well

first I tried corn starch and it really didn't work too well it left my hand

where I tried it feeling very dry. I tried arrow root also and it left my

hand feeling the same as the cornstarch, so I tossed out those two jars. I

broke down and ordered some from Snowdrift Farm and put the wheat starch in

another jar and it soaked up the greasyness and left my hand feeeling soft

and moist. After I had gotten it I found a store that sells the tapioca

flour, I bought a small bag and it has the same feeling as the wheat starch

so it is my opinion that the flour is another word for starch. I had one

more jar to experiment on and I put a small amount of the tapioca flour in

it and it came out feeling the same way as the wheat starch. Price

comparisons tapioca flour (starch) $1.69 for 1 pound no postage Snowdrift

Farms Natrasorb $9.00 for 1 pound plus postage.

The post that I read about it said that it was used for balms and lotion

bars that felt too greasy. I never used it yet, just purchased some to try

it.

Hi

The conversation on natrasorb got me really intrigued, I found a few online

resources for the tapioca starch: www.asiafoods.com and www.bulkfoods.com,

if you don't have it locally or just want the convenience of ordering it.

This is just what came up first searching on .

also found this on natrasorb from the manufacturer

What percentage of tapioca flour do you use in a lotion?

I just played it by feel the recipe that I always use is 1 ounce Ewax 1

ounce Shea Butter 1 ounce oil for this batch I used sunflower oil. I mixed

in the 6 ounces of water but it was still too stiff so I added in 2 more

ounces and came up with the right consistency (when completely set up the

next day it had the consistency of Ponds Cold Cream) to this I added 1

teaspoon of the starch. Tried a little dab on the back of my hand and it was

just right.

So I would suggest that you put in a small amount and if it doesn't feel

right put in a little bit more. You can always add more but if you get too

much you can't take it out.

I'm in the same boat as Colleen. I have it but haven't used it. Just

another one of my purchases that I haven't tried out yet. Sorry I

couldn't be of some help.

Re: Natrasorb

Sorry Katy, I have no help for you as I haven't used mine. I'm just

wondering what it does in the cream versus not using it in the cream?

That's ok! I bought a lot of it from Chandler's once and used it in body powder

and also in bath salts & milk bath. It holds, I think, twice it's weight in

liquid so disperses essential oils or fragrance oils well. I've heard that using

it in creams and lotions will make it feel less greasy. It does do that but I've

noticed that it also made my cream MUCH thicker than it usually is (and it's

usually very thick). I'm going to play around some more and use lesser amounts

of stearic and see what I get.

Is your in tiny pellets or powder form? I use the pelleted all the time,

but not in cosmetic product. Mine is for coolers, hot packs, air

fresheners, etc. Same stuff?

Hmmmm, I'm not sure? Mine's in powdered form. Snowdrift lists theirs as Wheat

Starch (INCI name) but Chandlers lists theirs as Tapioca Starch. The stuff from

Chandler's seems a lot lighter and fluffier than the samples we got from

Snowdrift but they both call it Natrasorb. Is yours like AgriSoak? I think

that's what they call that stuff that you can buy for neck coolers and gel

fresheners.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone used Natrasorb in their body butters? If so, how much do

you add? I ordered this free sample (huge!) because I read about

using it to cut the " greasiness " ;now can't find the recipe!! Thanks

much,

Sue
