Worse after Gel Injections???

Hello All.......

Just wondering if any of you who have tried gel injections seemed to

get worse after the treatment? I only got about 4 weeks of relief from

my injections and now my symptoms seem worse than ever. I plan on

going back to my ortho but always seem to put it off as long as

possible. Somehow I figure in my mind that this next appointment is

going to be different and he is going to say he can help me....then

when I get there and he tells me to stay off stairs and overdose on

anti-inflamitories I am heartbroken. I get so embarassed having a

doctor hand me kleenex and say " well we can try P.T. again " .

I'm sorry to hear that the shots didn't work for you - they didn't me

either so I was glad that my insurance covered 100%!

I talked to my doc's assistant and was told that basically my only

remaining option is a total knee replacement - at 41.

I have actually gotten worse since my shots - and I'll always wonder

whether it was from the shots or just the chrondo. My chiro told me

that even to do accupuncture I would have to do it every other day to

keep the inflammation under control - and that isn't something I can

do time and money wise. The knee replacement scares me but at this

point I'm up to Darvocet just to get comfortable to sleep.

I know that it's disheartening to know what the doc is going to say

before you get there - that's the same reason I haven't gone back.

There are only a few things that I can take comfort in - that I know

that I've got a good support system around me, that my doctor is

knowledgeable and most important that I'm as smart about my knees as

possible!!

I'm not sure what I'll do but if there are any " younger " folks out

there who have done the knee replacement please e-mail me off board -

knadn_eh@... - I have a million " real-life " questions that my

doc wouldn't know!

Is your cartilage worn out in the medial and lateral compartments? Is a

partial knee replacement a possibility? I wouldn't be afraid of either a

partial knee replacement or even a TKR at 41 if your quality of life is

severely compromised and you have exhausted all other realistic solutions.

I know of a girl in my area who had a partial knee replacement around your

age and seems to be getting along fabulously.

I too had 2 children without drugs...and you're right this pain is

different. I actually had someone with fibromyalgia tell me that she

was the lucky one because her pain wasn't constant!

The shots were all incredibly painful for me. I told my doc after

the first one that he was glad that I didn't know which car was his

because I could use my cane as a weapon! He told me to hang in there

and give the shots a chance - I did - they didn't work!!

After the shots I had about 1 week where I felt " better " - that is if

I stayed away from stairs I felt better. But after that I noticed

the pain steadily increasing and as long as I don't do my normal

routine (i.e., stairs, walk long distances, walk on hard surfaces,

get up and down) I'm okay.

I had Supartz. Which did you have? Did you get your injections in

the front of your knee or on the side?

Hopefully you're finding some relief..I find that the cold (no

humidity) is helping - how weird is that?!
