Guest guest
Good Evening Everyone! I was reading through the posts and realized I hadn't visited in a while! A couple of comments: I think it was Rocco who was asking about the sharp pains...my knee will pain directly within the joint at times and take my breath away - is that what you're talking about? I have never found out why - and as my OS explained - knee pain is a connundrum for doctors because there are no nerve endings in the actual joint to cause pain. But he knows it's there so that's a bonus - he doesn't treat me like I'm nuts! What is a Fulkerson (sp?)? I've seen a couple of posts but have never heard of this procedure. Someone mentioned taking Celebrex - my hubby had to take it last summer for a severe hand injury (darn - I'm allergic!) and he LOVED it! Said that it took away all those little pains that come from being in gravity!! Synvisc/Supartz/Lateral - Been there, done that. I had my lateral about 15 months ago and then did the Supartz shots last summer. No relief in sight - but I'm the type of person who doesn't get relief from cortisone either! I'm scheduled for a patellar/femural replacement next Tuesday. I'm VERY freaked!! I know that this will be a welcome relief when the pain is done - and at least with this surgery I know there will be an end to the pain (God willing). The never-ending, no end in sight, pain of CP has done me in. I'm surrendering! Wish me luck, pray lots for me, and I'll let you know that all went well! I went through the same hell with horific intestinal pain until a gastroenterologist took me seriously seven years ago.....but that is a whole different story . > > What is a Fulkerson (sp?)? Basically they break your leg in an operation and reposition your patella tendon; OMG they break your leg?? Has anyone had this done? I am at the end of my rope, holding on to a little knot I tied but cannot imagine going through this procedure. Is it possible it sounds worse than it is???? Im in the process of selling my 2 story home and buying a ranch style, this is as drastic of a step as i am ready for, let alone a leg break! ect to the Terms of Service. --------------------------------- --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Guest guest
: Thank you for my morning laugh! I had the exact same reaction when I read what this was!!! Oh my gosh - I can't imagine that - and I'm doing the replacement thing - with foreign materials that have to stay in my body!!! I can't imagine wanting this - but I tell you after the past 2 years, it may seem plausible if it was the only thing.... Good luck selling your home - we are in the same position, but with 5 kids in school I'm so hesitant to move them. Hugs to everyone - and I pray for everyone at least 2 minutes of pain free existence! Kim

I am at the end of my rope, holding on to a little knot I tied but cannot imagine going through this procedure. I'm sorry if I scared you. I have talked to a lot of people who were very happy they had the proceedure done. The bone isn't necessarily even broke all the way through (please see the link I posted). My biggest scare was that I couldn't have both knees done at the same time. I would have to have one done, go through a several month recovery time, have the other one done, then another several month recovery time. All this without an assurance it would even help. When I first went to a specialist the worst I thought I was facing was a couple month recovery from a double TKR, not a totally life changing experience. Guest guest
Re: Synvisc, Fulkerson, Patellar/Femural Replacement - OH MY! I do plan on reading the link you sent, but I have a 16 month old trying to take over my keyboard and computer. As for scaring me, lol, I get scared every morning when my feet hit the floor.....what is the pain going to be like today! I really feel for the young parents with this condition. When my knees reached a crisis situation was a year after our youngest son got out of high school. I remember a year ago after virtually giving up ever getting relief when my wife and I were discussing whether or not we could get along with just her pay check. What a dark time. I " think " I have turned the corner, but there are no assurances. Mike MT
Guest guest
I knew I had ITBS, and I knew I had CP, but I got a new pain once, that was inside my knee. Went to the OS. Without doing an MRI, he told me I had arthritis. I knew it wasn't arthritis, so I asked for an X-ray. He does the X-ray & says, OK, it's not arthritis, it's patellar tendinitis. I knew it wasn't PT, it was INSIDE the knee and it hurt like hell. Tried several other OS's, no help. Finally, after a couple of years of being run around, having to wait months for appts, etc., I switched clinics. I picked my doctor out based on his photo -- looked liked he had a sense of humor & would be a patient type -- and I was right. And he did an MRI and told me I had a torn meniscus. Went in, cut off the torn part, smoothed out some CP spots, and, although it didn't help the CP, it took away that interior knee pain. In fact, I never had post-surgery pain, could walk the next day w/o crutches. Ann Synvisc, Fulkerson, Patellar/Femural Replacement - OH MY! Good Evening Everyone! It is a type of Tibial Turbicle Transfer (TTT) named after it's founder. Basically they break your leg in an operation and reposition your patella tendon; Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say they break your leg. They saw off the tibial tubercle & move it over. Isn't that right? I haven't had it done (and I wouldn't -- I think it the kneecap is subluxing, the problem lies with some other structure: tight lateral retinaculum, loose medial retinaculum, shallow trochlea, too-tight vastus lateralis and/or lateral ham -- I think a TTT is just too radical -- and irreversible. I think a lot of surgery is still in its infancy, and that includes the knee.
