Dee Dee,

I have been doing craft fairs/flea markets/ trade days in my area for about 3

years now. Some of them are REALLY good and some are really BAD! My suggestion

is to try it at least 3 months and make sure one of the months is during the

holiday shopping season to see if it is worth your time.

I have found 2 or 3 that are really good and worth it and others are a big waste

of time. It depends on conditions / shoppers / advertising / how well the market

is established / etc.

Find some markets that are open on the weekends, or take some vacation time to

do a couple that you have to travel to and see where your items will sell best.

One thing though, if your products are new to the area, consider giving out

sample products and then see if your sales the next month are better. This has

worked for me with several items. You should have repeat business every month

which is why I think you should stick it out at least 3 months. If the show is

worth it, you should see repeat customers as well as new faces and sales should

double or triple within that time.

Hope that helps!! Please feel free to email me off list if you want more info.

I am also thinking of doing this. I would also like to know if

anybody else has done this and what the results were.

I did my first one last week. It was cold, windy and raining the whole

time. Cost me a $1 and I sold $27 worth and got my business and short

story in the newspaper for free. I'm going to keep doing this one and

if it keeps doing well, will try a few others too maybe!

We haven't had very good luck at this type of venue.

We do better with catalog sales and selling to shops.

We do a LIMITED number of craft shows also. Just a

select few around the end of the year when people are

looking for Christmas presents. This doesn't mean you

won't do well at this, just what works for us.

Hi Dee Dee! I think it really depends on how much the rent is

whether you will do well. The farmers market I just dropped was $60

an event. So for me, I lost money or broke even (when you calculate

the product costs and not just the rent). I *have* just secured a

Farmers Market in Malibu and while it's $75 a day, I'm hoping the

more upscale clientele might help my profits.

In all honesty, I think at farmers markets and flea markets, people

are looking for BARGAINS. If your line isn't priced that way (and I

can't imagine too many of us doing handcrafted products can price

that low), you might want to reconsider doing them full-time.

Especially if you get sick of watching people walk around eating

roasted corn all night... ::grin::

Best of luck to you!
