Hi there from Norway

I use to simmer roses in oil, and let them stay in the sun for about two weeks,

then I get a wonderful oil with rose scent. I make Bath Salt or spa with Sea

salt, oil, rose petals, leftover from soap, and maybe add some rose FO. My

friends love it!

Here is Missouri, the Mimosa tree's are in full bloom and smell

wonderful. Anybody have any suggestions on harvesting that wonderful

smell? Would there be any benefit in simmering the mimosa blossoms

in " distilled " water and making a lotion from the water? Thanks

again, charmaine

I'd be worried about ickies growing in water from them but I bet they'd make

gorgeous scented paper. If you've never made paper, it's another (cheaper and

simpler) addiction waiting for you. I make paper for bougainvillia petals here

(florida) and they are beautiful. Very nice gift tags or additions to a gift

basket.

Heating the water to 170 degrees and holding for 15 min will Kill any

bacteria in water. Making herbal/botanical water is no problem if you

heat the herbal water to 170 and hold.

Killing the germs isn't the problem - it's keeping them from coming back that

would worry me. I suppose a spray container would stay pretty sterile but if it

was one where someone mgiht put their hand in it then it could be

re-contaminated. I haven't any experience with preservatives so I stay away

from making products containing water. Just my opinion, of course.
