The following is from an excerpt of Dr Weil a famous Natural

Physician who has written many books on Health. you can read this at

About Varicose veins and spider veins.

Vericose veins are enlarged blood vessels caused by weakening of the

walls of the veins, usually the saphenous vein, which runs the length

of the leg and is subjected to the greatest gravitational pressure.

Spider veins, often on the hands and face, usually show up as little

webs of interconnected reddish or purple lines, but they are also

from swollen blood vessels that are close to the skin's surface.

" Grape seed extract is commonly prescribed in France for varicose

veins and other vascular problems. It contains powerful antioxidant

compounds called oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs), which have been

found in lab and animal studies to make blood vessels more elastic

and also less likely to leak fluids that cause the leg swelling often

associated with varicose veins. However, the natural product I

generally recommend for varicose veins is horse-chestnut seed extract

(HCSE), a remedy popular in Germany that is believed to work

similarly to grape seed extract to reduce pain and swelling in the

legs but has been more extensively studied. The major active

ingredient in HCSE is believed to be the compound escin. The dosage

for varicose veins is 250 to 300 mg twice a day of standardized horse-

chestnut seed extract (the equivalent of 100 mg of escin). "

Whichever of these plant extracts you try, keep in mind that it can

take up to two months to see results.

Treatment for spider veins has also improved with the advent of

lasers using super-speedy wave-lengths to penetrate the skin without

heating the pigment. "

Notice that the grape seed extract or horse chestnut cause the

vessels to be more " elastic " , and Not necessarily more constricted.

About Cellulite:

Dr Weil says :

" Cellulite is the result of weight gain and connective tissue

becoming slack with age. "

There is no magic formula capable of burning fat -- in any form,

anywhere in the body. Unfortunately, the fat on women's thighs and

buttocks is arranged in large chambers separated from each other by

columns of connective tissue. If these chambers are overflowing with

fat as a result of being overweight or if the connective tissue has

slackened with age (as it invariably does), the result is the classic

pitting and bulging we have come to know as cellulite.

Men don't usually develop cellulite because male skin is thicker and

the fat cell chambers are divided into smaller, more tightly arranged

areas.

" Over the years there have been any number of cellulite removal fads.

Massage doesn't work although it can improve circulation in the

affected area. Creams and lotions don't help. Even liposuction isn't

dependable.

hope this helps

Just to clarify, my email regarding veins and cellulite was based on ayurvedic

studies on this subject. It is very different than the information below. Its

astounding how different the two medical systems are in their approach to

physiology.

My friend rid herself of cellulite from massage so I don't think that approach

can be eliminated as a possiblity.
