Guest guest
Hi everyone, Iam going to make a lotion for a friend who is pregnant and wants to put it on her belly to help prevent stretchmarks. I have a few essential oil's that I have heard that will help with this but i was hoping the group could help me out more. Does anyone know what essential oil's will work on preventing or softening already there stretchmarks? Remember she is pregnant, also. Does any one have knowledge in this area? I would greatly appreciate any thing you may have to offer. Thanks so much, Ellen
Guest guest
Ellen, a lot of EO are dangerous for pregnant ladies. Some may cause uterine contractions or other complications with the pregnancy. Years ago when I was with child, we used baby oil to prevent stretch marks, helping soften the skin and keeping it from becoming so tight and causing the stretch marks. It's a safe bet a plain whipped body butter including Shea will help a lot and be a lot safer until the baby is born. Afterwards, a body butter or lotion with helichrysium ( I think is supposed to help with scarring). I feel it's just not safe to use EO's on a expecting mother. I've read too many cautions. Just about every site I order mine from will tell in the descriptions of the EO if it is safe or not, but a Google search will help too. I would type in something like..essential oils and their properties. There are some nice products on the market to help with scars she might want to check out. I saw one just the other day at the local Wally world that was pretty reasonable in price. But read the label close to see if it's safe for use during pregnancy. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, I know you want EO's, but unrefined Shea butter is super for stretch marks. Hugs, Essential oil's for stretchmarks??
Guest guest
hi ellen. i'd leave your lotion unscented. i have 2 lotion bars that i sell, a scented shea butter bar and an unscented cocoabutter bar. at the last craft fair i did, i sold out of the unscented, primarily to pregnant woman, while i had several bars of the scented one left. i also used the unscented one throughout my last pregnancy (i have a 7 week old). there are many eos that are contraindicated for pregnancy and when you're pregnant there are enough things to worry about/obsess on, so using an unscented bar (especially one that smells like yummy cocoabutter) means you feel good about using it. just my 2 cents... laurel naked soapworks >Message: 4 > Date: Fri, 26 Mar 2004 05:29:12 -0000 > From: " Ellen Scusa " <eascusa@...> >Subject: Essential oil's for stretchmarks?? > >Hi everyone, >Iam going to make a lotion for a friend who is pregnant and wants to >put it on her belly to help prevent stretchmarks. Guest guest
> Ellen, a lot of EO are dangerous for pregnant ladies. Some may cause uterine > contractions or other complications with the pregnancy. <SNIP> There is an awful lot of misinformation around concerning essential oils. Very few would cause any problems used as a fragrance in a skin cream and most of those are not available commercially. Looking for info via Google is no good unless you have some background knowledge first, because there is an awful lot of 'information' out there that is just plain wrong and sometimes actively dangerous, and unless you have some knowledge you won't be able to tell the difference. Swallowing EOs or handling them in large quantities such as we do when making soap is a different matter and I would take great care handling them if I was pregnant. (Good ventilation, use gloves, wash immediately if you spill any on your skin. For that matter that's just good practice anyway). FOs too are potentially dangerous, in some ways more so because you can't get the information about what is actually in them.
