Oh, now these sound fun! (And I'm not even a lip-gloss person!) Do you (or

does anyone) know where you can get the sponge-tipped applicators?

Carolyn, who *really* doesn't need one more amusing project

Lava Lamp lip glosses

Have you seen them? Clear plastic tubes with sponge-tip applicators filled

with an oil and glycerin mixture that oozes back and forth like a Lava Lamp.

Hi All

Don't remember if I ever introduced myself to this group. If not, I apologize. I

tend to be a lurker. Anyway, my name is Becky and I live in Washington State.

I wanted to write to thank Cat for the wonderful lava lamp lip blam suggestion.

I just made some and it's really cool! My nieces will love it once I locate some

containers for it. Has anyone seen any suppliers of the little roll on lip gloss

bottles or the ones with the sponge tip? I'm not up for buying a huge amount of

these, so the supplier posted earlier won't work for me. Any help will be

greatly appreciated.

Happy Holidays!

Becky

When I clicked on a larger pic I noticed that they have a minimum

order...sorry about that! :-( (too bad...they had some neat stuff!)

Roll-on perfume/lip gloss bottles would work as well and I know that several

bottle suppliers listed in the Library have no minimum order requirements.

, It's my understanding they are not supposed to mix. Glycerin is water

based? isn't it? The reason for using it, that is the lava part that swirls

around with color in it.

Hope I'm right. That is what mine do anyway.

Hi :

The glycerine/flavoring is a water-based liquid and isn't supposed to mix

with the oil. The effect is supposed to replicate the old 70's Lava

Lamps...an oozing, undulating liquid in a liquid.

Personally, I don't care for them, but they are all the rage right now with

the teenage crowd.

Hope this helps!

> Okay, finally got around to experimenting with making a couple of these

lava lamp lip glosses, using Cat's recipe in the archives from a while ago.

After trying it out on myself, I'm seeing a problem and wonder if anyone

else has, too.

>

> It seems to take *forever* and a day (in other words, much too long, lol)

to completely mix the two units (glycerin/oil). It seems to me that as the

tube is used up, that the oil will be gone and it will be mostly the

colored/flavored part that remains at the bottom, which doesn't seem like a

good idea.

>

> How well should the two units (glycerin/oil) combine when shaken and how

long does it take to mix? Is there something I'm doing wrong? lol
