ORE part 2 Information

Hi all,

Right now, I am in the same boat as many of my colleagues who have recently

passed the ORE part 1 exam in April and are confused as to how to proceed for

our ORE part 2 preparation. I am trying to collect information regarding the

exam as soon as possible as I would like enough time to prepare before the next

exam, which I believe may be in September. Right now, I am finishing up my

dissertation for the MSc. course I am studying so, I havn't been able to put too

much time looking into preparation for Part 2. So far, here is what I have

gathered.

Supplies:

The supplies we need to practice at home are-

1. Manniken head with desk clamp

2. Air compressor

3. Handpiece with controls

4. Misc dental supplies (e.g mouth mirror, probe, PFI, etc.)

I have searched online for agencies that sell a manikin head and I have found

some websites in particular which may be usefull.

These two are based in the U.K and therefore shipping wouldnt be too expensive.

But looking at the cost, they are pretty expensive. I have not read feedback

from previous Part 2 exams so I am not sure whether someone has mentioned this

information before. But I it would be helpfull if our seniors in ORE exam would

give us some guidance. I do know that the individulas that passed may have

phantom heads that they would be willing to sell. I have contacted Savita and

she gave me a list of the materials she has available for sale. She has posted

a week ago, so you can find her email address in the forms.

Regarding preparation, its best to take courses to aid in our study. I have

asked Dr. Pretam what are the best classes to take and he said Dr. Fred's

Manikin course and the Royal College/CKL courses for OSCE's, medical emergencies

and treatment planning are the best. However, there was recently a positive

feedback for the Eastman course for OSCE's and medical emergencies which was

said to be very usefull. There is also a course in Birmingham which has all the

four component of the exam i.e Manikin, OSCEs, medical emergency and treatment

planning. I havn't read any feedback from anyone who has taken this course

though.
