Hi all,

Right now, I am in the same boat as many of my colleagues who have recently

passed the ORE part 1 exam in April and are confused as to how to proceed for

our ORE part 2 preparation. I am trying to collect information regarding the

exam as soon as possible as I would like enough time to prepare before the next

exam, which I believe may be in September. Right now, I am finishing up my

dissertation for the MSc. course I am studying so, I havn't been able to put too

much time looking into preparation for Part 2. So far, here is what I have

gathered.

Supplies:

The supplies we need to practice at home are-

1. Manniken head with desk clamp

2. Air compressor

3. Handpiece with controls

4. Misc dental supplies (e.g mouth mirror, probe, PFI, etc.)

I have searched online for agencies that sell a manikin head and I have found

some websites in particular which may be usefull.

http://www.phantomhead.com/products.php

http://www.dentalmodels.co.uk/index.php/shop/2

These two are based in the U.K and therefore shipping wouldnt be too expensive.

But looking at the cost, they are pretty expensive. I have not read feedback

from previous Part 2 exams so I am not sure whether someone has mentioned this

information before. But I it would be helpfull if our seniors in ORE exam would

give us some guidance. I do know that the individulas that passed may have

phantom heads that they would be willing to sell. I have contacted Savita and

she gave me a list of the materials she has available for sale. She has posted

a week ago, so you can find her email address in the forms.

Regarding preparation, its best to take courses to aid in our study. I have

asked Dr. Pretam what are the best classes to take and he said Dr. Fred's

Manikin course and the Royal College/CKL courses for OSCE's, medical emergencies

and treatment planning are the best. However, there was recently a positive

feedback for the Eastman course for OSCE's and medical emergencies which was

said to be very usefull. There is also a course in Birmingham which has all the

four component of the exam i.e Manikin, OSCEs, medical emergency and treatment

planning. I havn't read any feedback from anyone who has taken this course

though.

So, at the moment, I am undecided as to how to proceed. The next royal college

course is August 3 - 6 2011. You can find the application here:

http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/fds/courses/ore

The eastman course application is on this website:

http://www.ucl.ac.uk/eastman/cpd/revision/ore/index.html

And the Birmingham course is :

http://www.dentistry.bham.ac.uk/ecourse/pages/page.asp?pid=1185

The CKL education course contact is:

karencrean@...

The contact information for Dr. Fred's Manikin course was given by Dr. Zahid

Ahmad and is as follows:

4 MANOR WAY, OLD WOKING, SURREY GU22 9JX ENGLAND

TEL: 01483 773282 FAX: 01483 740548 EMAIL: mr.dental@...

He has said to call in and book. I am not sure whether Dr. Fred supplies the

manikin, or he just shows on his manikin the procedures.

Regarding the books, I am not sure exactly what the best books are. I know that

there is an OSCE book by Kathleen Fan. Iam sure this would be a great book to

reviese OSCE. For treatment planning, there is Clinical Problem Solving

dentistry by Odell. I have used this book for part 1 preparation and it was

really helpfull.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clinical-Problem-Solving-Dentistry-Professor/dp/04430738\

This is what I have right now. If anyone can add any information for us part 2

goers, we would be very grateful as I know there have been many posts about Part

2 help.

Zubair

Hi all,

Right now, I am in the same boat as many of my colleagues who have recently passed the ORE part 1 exam in April and are confused as to how to proceed for our ORE part 2 preparation. I am trying to collect information regarding the exam as soon as possible as I would like enough time to prepare before the next exam, which I believe may be in September. Right now, I am finishing up my dissertation for the MSc. course I am studying so, I havn't been able to put too much time looking into preparation for Part 2. So far, here is what I have gathered.
