Guest guest
I've been reading this thread and have two comments. 1) I use GSE in my body butters as a preservative and find that i got orange oil pockets in my butters as well. They would be on the bottom of the containers. Looks like the are heavier than the butter so the GSE settled at the bottom. I also noticed that the GSE only separated when the butter was re-melted. So I could never remelt a batch and scent and pour. 2) What do you add to a cream to give it that 'powdery feel' 3) Doesn't the ethanol in your creams cause drying in the skin? Trudie > > I use half aloe and half distilled water and I use e-wax and stearic acid. The e-wax is not going to thicken your lotion it will just make the lotion " draggy " on the skin. Go to Snowdrift farms.com and look at their lotion recipes and read about e-wax and stearic acid. I have used aloe for years. And I have also used Phenonip for years and not a problem > > ~Carol~ > Re:Need help with lotion > > > Well, I use the aloe in place of water for the liquid phase for > preservative issues. > > Jeralyn > > > > > >
Guest guest
Trudie, I use a small amount of cornstarch or arrowroot powder added at the end for a smooth " powdery " feel of my body butter. The GSE is not what caused the problems of separation for me (in the hand cream) as I have the first cream I ever made in the linen closet in the bathroom that's still holding up very well and it's about 6 months old. That was a 45/55 formula (a recipe I found online) with the 55% being oil. This is what caused me to try and reformulate my own recipe...to " flip " that so it wouldn't be so oily. The amount of ethanol I add is not drying at all. Grain alcohol is not the same as rubbing alcohol in that way. Since this thread started, I reformulated the lotion (that started this thread) and instead of an 80/20 formula, I did a 70/30, bumped up the e-wax a bit, did away with the extra ethanol and instead of all aloe, I split it up with witch hazel. It's been almost 2 weeks now and not one sign of separation! The lotion is VERY smooth and creamy. Best, Jeralyn
