Guest guest
To All As a full member of the RCSEd what is the point of this if you have taken your Offshore medics course you have proved yourself in the eyes of the national body the HSE. What is required is to be recognised internationally, I'm sorry but we all have a job that if your not up to scratch they soon replace you and bloody fast to and I'll blow my own horn if you open your mouth to right wrongs they do the same (FM). What is required is for the major nation of oil production and exploration (USA) unfortunatly a nation of double standards(when it suits them) to be made aware of what our standards are. I and many of you have to deal with the ones that dont make the grade in the European sector and the Gulf and wonder how to preserve a 300lb body that had no right to be in the industry in the first place. Well thats that off my chest ..............will be looking for a new job next week lol TM gordon scott <gordonscott18@...> wrote: Ian, can you contact me off list? >From: " Ian Sharpe " <Ian@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Diploma in Remote & Offshore Medicine >Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 20:00:23 +0500 > >Dear All, > >As I mentioned some time ago Ross and I have been in discussion with one >of the academic organisations in the UK in regard to setting up a higher >education program / course for remote medics. You make a good point. I guess international recognition of standards becomes more likely as academic institutions such as the RCSEd become involved Cheers -- Jel Coward The UK Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and Command Physician course is 10-16th November 2002 at Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore, Scotland http://www.wildmedic.org http://www.wemsi.org jel@... Guest guest
Jel, A couple of the reasons for going doing the RCSEd route were the recognition of the course and the ability to attract expertise and research. One dream is to create an e-centre of excellence for remote medicine and this is a path we can follow to get that credibility. Ross PS Can you contact me offline, I guess you know I'm going to mug you for something > > You make a good point. Guest guest
This is an interesting project and I would endorse anything that sets the ball rolling. Even if things are not perfect in the design unless we start somewhere we will never start. Anything I can do just ask. Guest guest
Now I am from the USA, and I run the medical department of a USA based company, and I agree with you 100%. I have been trying very hard to have standards put in place. I have met with many of the major medical associations in the USA and they are in agreement. The problem is no one seems to be willing to take the fight on. I have been met with alot of resistance from many companies. I have also been met with resistance from nurses and physicians alike who are not savy to the remote environment and are more concerned about who should be privaledged enough to perform certain skills. They are all pretty happy living in a grey area where standards and skills vary from company to company. I would love to see more organization and cooperation in creating an international standard. And I am willing to do my part to see it happen. My apologies for jumping in so strong, but it is a topic I am very passionate about. I can assure you it is not the medics, but in most cases the companies that are creating this problem. > In article <20020607231302.56527.qmail@w...>, Tony M > <gold_wing_uk@y...> writes > > > >To All > >As a full member of the RCSEd what is the point of this if you have taken your > >Offshore medics course you have proved yourself in the eyes of the national > >body the HSE. Guest guest
Now matter where in the world you are, we all seem to come up against the same problems, high level support. But I know the States has its own particular problems. I have a good friend who has just moved from Tennessee to Texas and her Nursing qualifications and 18 years experience count for nothing. She is going to have to sit an exam to be allowed to practice in Texas, which I believe aint cheap. Don't you Yanks all belong to the same country. Noe she is working in a book store, and they wonder why people are leaving the medical profession in the thousands regards neil Poole FSU Soorena Iran Re: Diploma in Remote & Offshore Medicine Now I am from the USA, and I run the medical department of a USA based company, and I agree with you 100%.
