Guest guest
Prednisone (was: plantar fasciitis) > Actually, the reason they have you taper off is that if you suddenly stop taking Prednisone, your kidneys can fail (because while you're on the Prednisone, it takes the place of one of your kidney functions & your kidneys get too laid back to realize that they need to start working again if you suddenly stop the P.) I am just repeating what was told to me by my doctor, but I think you are also correct from some of the info I read on the internet. > I'm surprised you got that bubble pack Rx'd twice. Are you in the US? Yes, but it was over a year apart from two different doctors. At one time our local doctors prescribed predisone for almost every ailment (25 years ago?). When I found out how dangerous it was, I actually refused to take it for quite a few years, but if you are careful, predisone carries a lot of inflammation and pain relief for a pretty reasonable price. Guest guest
Hi Ann, Can you send a link to the site where you bought your prednisone? Or a recommendation? I'm afraid I'd get ripped off/scamed from a company I didn't know. Thanks, > Actually, the reason they have you taper off is that if you suddenly stop taking Prednisone, your kidneys can fail (because while you're on the Prednisone, it takes the place of one of your kidney functions & your kidneys get too laid back to realize that they need to start working again if you suddenly stop the P.) > > Did you know that you can order Prednisone tablets on line w/o an Rx? I only say this because I got some from Australia (from a N.Z. pharmaceutical co.) recently that I may try for my shoulder girdle pain if I can't get help from my docs, and because you might want to CAREFULLY Rx your own. The standard treatment for polymyalgia rheumatica (not what you have, but just to give you an idea) is 15 mg/day for a week, then 10 to see if that's enough to stop the pain, then 5 to see if you can maintain on a low dose w/o pain. They do it for 3 months then taper you off to see if the PMR has gone away. If not, they put you back on the lowest dose that worked but I don't know for how long. You should do TONS of research on the risks of taking Prednisone long term before you do this. I'm surprised you got that bubble pack Rx'd twice. Guest guest
FYI-prednisone is a presciption medication > > Actually, the reason they have you taper off is that if you > suddenly stop taking Prednisone, your kidneys can fail (because > while you're on the Prednisone, it takes the place of one of your > kidney functions & your kidneys get too laid back to realize that > they need to start working again if you suddenly stop the P.) > > > > Did you know that you can order Prednisone tablets on line w/o an > Rx?
