I am doing research on the subject of Paramedics and EMTs working in the

hospitals and would very much appreciate your comments. THIS IS NOT SPAM!

I invite you to please participate in this short survey regarding employment and

utilization of pre-hospital providers inside the hospital. Please answer

these 11 question with an accurate response to the best of your knowledge and

send it to my email address included below.

1. Please describe the level of participation allowed in your facility:

Physician Extender, Technician, Nursing Aid, or other?

2. If you were to compare the skills performed, medications administered, and

procedures performed, would they most likely resemble a: doctor, med

tech, physician assistant, RN, LPN/LVN, nurses aid, ward clerk, or other?

3. Please indicate and add those procedures that are performed in the hospital

or clinical setting by Paramedics and/or EMTs: Intubation, IV

initiation, lab draws, BAC draws, patient assessment, ACLS initiation, Code Team

Leader, radiology interpretation, lab interpretation, EKG

interpretation, chest tube placement, cardiocentesis, sutures (what

limitations?), casting, ART lines, central venous lines, PIC lines, blood

transfusion initiation, medication orders, procedure orders, OB assessment,

childbirth, infant resuscitation, pre-op, post-op etc?

4. Does your facility allow these providers to access and administer: narcotics,

code/ACLS meds, anti-biotics, minor anesthetics, local

anesthetics, IV meds, injections, immunizations, or others?

5. In your facility, who do the pre-hospital providers report to and how

closely are they supervised? To what degree are they allowed to direct the

course of patient care for a particular patient?

6. In your facility, how are the pre-hospital providers scheduled? How does this

compare to their counterparts (i.e. physicians, PAs, RNs, LPN/LVNs,

etc)?

7. Are they allowed to work in a pre-hospital setting in addition to the medical

center? How many hours would be typical for this employment per

week?

8. Are the pre-hospital licensed providers providing flight services

specifically, a combination of services, or hospital only?

9. What is the official position of your state Medical Examiners office or state

supervisory office for EMS in regards to this employment? In contrast,

what is the official position of your state Nursing Board or state supervisory

office for Registered and/or LPN/LVNs?

10. Has your facility encountered any unexpected turmoil or 'hospital politics'

or union controversy in regards to this employment? If so, to what

level was it managed?

11. How do the pay scales for these positions compare to those of their direct

counterparts (i.e. physicians, PAs, RNs, LPN/LVNs, etc)? Also, how

does this compare to street medics and working EMTs in your area? Please also

indicate whether you serve a rural or urban community.

If you have an interest in the results of this research, please send me an email

and I will let you know what I learn as I may write a paper on this if

I can compile enough data to make it worthwhile and if there is sufficient

interest in this subject.

Kind regards
