Guest guest
There is a brand new all natural preservative on the market, " Naturserve " , which (according to the manufacturer) is JUST as effective as Germaben. We've had success using it, but since it is comprised (partly) of Cassia Leaf Oil, it has a cinammon odor. Guest guest
Hi One other thing about natural preservatives. if you DO decide to use a natural preservative and sell your product to the public [ FDA regulations} , you will need to have the product Tested by a certified lab and that can be quite expensive, they must to a 3 and 6 month gram negative and positive test, so even if it tested OK, your looking at at least 6 months before you can sell your product to the public. hth Sherry
Guest guest
What if you use an already tested preservative do you still have to wait? I thought I might put some poducts in my book store ( yeah I know they really don't go together but I'm weird that way ) and was not sure of the regulations for home made lotions and such. > > Hi > > One other thing about natural preservatives. if you DO decide to use a natural preservative and sell your product to the public [ FDA regulations} , you will need to have the product Tested by a certified lab and that can be quite expensive, they must to a 3 and 6 month gram negative and positive test, so even if it tested OK, your looking at at least 6 months before you can sell your product to the public. > > hth > Sherry > > >
Guest guest
Hi If the preservative you plan to use has been tested for gram negative and positive bacteria and can provide you proof of that fact, then no you would not have to have your product tested IF you follow the manf usage rate for your product. At least this is my understanding of the FDA regulations. All they want is for you to provide a reasonably safe product to the consumer and having a product test would be in your best interest. The point is, you or anyone else wants to sell a product to the public that will not possibly cause any skin damage, and that is why testing the product is a wise choice. Law suits are enourmous these days and it can be disaster if you get sued. The good news is that you CAN get product liability insurance for your products you sell so that if someone did sue, it would not bankrupt you. Best of luck to you Sherry Sherry's Creations Natural Care E-books & Spreadsheets http://www.herbalsoap-healingcreams.com/
Guest guest
Definately a LOT more involved than operating a simple book store! I think I will just make for myself for now and spend some more time learning all the ins and outs before I try selling. Thanks for the advice! > > Hi > > If the preservative you plan to use has been tested for gram negative and positive bacteria and can provide you proof of that fact, then no you would not have to have your product tested IF you follow the manf usage rate for your product. Guest guest
Hi Burntwitch You got that right ! There are Fed rules, state rules, county rules and city rules...so it takes a lot of research before going into business for yourself. Also most states, or cities require you licence a business, so there are other costs involved to your proprietorship. There are also labeling laws for the Feds and the State one must abide by. Yes, it can get complicated, and overwhelming too, once one investigates operning up a retail business ! And costly ! Not to count the man hours it requires to buy, sell, and produce the product, and getting started in business....it can take years to see a profit. If I ever write another book, it will be about starting a business selling natural products, but even that subject can boggle my mind ! LOL ! I do not want to discourage anyone from selling more natural products, it is also a lot of FUN FUN, FUN, once you get through all the rules and regs and start up costs, and it IS very addictive ! Making natural products for your family and friends is also a great way to show your love to them, and makes great gifts that are inexpensive to make.....but beware, they will expect them forever !!!! My kids will not purchase store soap anymore, they have to have Mom' s soap....so I find myself making a LOT of soap !!!! hth Sherry Sherry's Creations Natural Care E-books & Spreadsheets http://www.herbalsoap-healingcreams.com/
