Guest guest
Have you tried Chopat patella straps? They have helped me more than any pain medication. Beyond that, you might try a government clinic that is free if your back is against the wall. The wrong exercises will only make the problem worse. If you have CP in an inflamed state, the ONLY exercises you should be doing are straight leg lifts, and hamstring and calf stretches. I believe the hamstring stretches help me more than anything. They hurt like & %$# when I do them, but in a few minutes it feels better than before I started. Pain killers are a last line of defense, but they do NOTHING to solve the problem. With all their downsides, an anti-inflammatory (Advil, Aleve) would be a better choice IMO, even if you have to take them with a stomach protector (Pepcid, Prilosec). It would be good to get a definite diagnosis, but only a good OS can do that. Guest guest
I found the cho patt to be too bulky and it did not work nearly as well as the pattstrap IT Band Strap. My PattStrap has made a world of difference for me. Since it is Flat and lay's nicely along the leg, I can wear it during the day and while at work. I got mine from http://www.pattstrap.com --- Mike Bernhardt <mlbernhardt@...> wrote: > Have you tried Chopat patella straps? They have > helped me more than any > pain medication. Guest guest
I agree about the straight leg lifts, but would like to add that you should do them not only forward, but backward, out to the side, and either lying on your side, lifting the bottom leg, or tying a Theraband to your ankle & pulling it across your other leg (however -- this can put torque on the knee and I think the lying down exercise is safer), and add weight as you can handle it. It doesn't seem like straight leg lifts could build up quad muscles, but they can. Also, in doing forward straight leg lifts, if you point your toe at about 1:00, it'll use the VMO more. Guest guest
Here is the one I use (item number 992, scroll down); http://www.runnersworld.ltd.uk/acatalog/Mueller-Supports.html Chopat had the original one patented, but the patent must have run out; http://www.b-n-d.com/1028-982.htm I agree with you, it is comfortable enough to wear all day. I just bought a second set for a spare, and when the first set needs to be laundered. Guest guest
i just looked at that site for the pati strap ....does that help to hold the knee in place? it does not look like it would help me but looks maybe more comfortable than my knee brace ?
