Guest guest
Hi Tim, I first used them in the military six or seven years ago and have also been extremely impressed with them. Very quick to apply, good for use in choppers and excellent protection of the wound. No real problems encountered other than persons not spreading the polystyrene balls evenly before application and, as with vaccum mattresses, the occasional puncture (and people forgetting the pump/suction set!!). The leg splint also doubles as a kiddies vaccum mattress which is useful for those that have to deal with rug rats in remote locations. Bill Re: Vacuum Splints All, Since the directive from NSMC about the discontinued use of inflatable splints we have replaced ours (uncluding tatty old box splints) with a nice new set of vacuum splints. I have used these whilst on the PHEC course and must say that I am mightily impressed, as are the rest of the crew. They are easy to apply and the level of splintage and support is very good, especially the ability to splint adequatley in the position found. We also have the vacuum mattress for spinal injury. This also seems to have good insulation properties possibly caused by the polystyrene balls that it's filled with. Anyone else out there have any experience with they're use and application. Problems encountered etc. As they're use is relatively new to me I would be interested to know. Tim Member Information: List owner: Ian Sharpe Owner@... Editor: Ross Boardman Editor@... Guest guest
Hi Tim We have been using them for a couple of years on our Ambulances. They are the business, mate!!!!! All the things you have said are spot on. We have found that the Patients have reported good comfort when splinted (perhaps due to the warmth they provide). We have had NO problems with them. Wouldn't swap them for a gold pig!! I'm trying to get our Lott to buy a mattress as well but they are not playing ball at all. Hope you are well. Cheers Rod Eglin Re: Vacuum Splints > > All, > > Since the directive from NSMC about the discontinued use of inflatable > splints we have replaced ours (uncluding tatty old box splints) with a nice > new set of vacuum splints.
