Thanks Ann. Interesting. I wonder how many surgeons are aware of this? I

see where it apparently hasn't been tried as a stand alone procedure. The

procedure makes sense. Here is a quote;

" Mesh expansion lateral release balanced the extensor mechanism in each

knee, maintained the mechanical integrity of the lateral capsule. "

I can understand what they are saying. While the LRs have restored a

dramatic level of normalcy to my life, whenever I do something that puts

pressure on my kneecaps (stairs, chairs), I can feel the lack of stability

to the outside of the patella, and it puts a pull on muscles that were never

stressed before.

If I were currently contemplating a LR, this would definitely be something I

would want to discuss with my surgeon.

Des anyone have ideas on how to counteract the knee swelling - other than ice.

Maybe part of this is a symptom of perimenopause. I have taped my knees so they

don't hurt as badly. I have energy to do things, but this swelling is worse on

some days than others and I haven't been able to pin it down to anything

specific.

If it was PMS time I could understand it but I can't figure it out. The taping

keeps the kneecap from grating too badly and I don't have swelling anywhere

else. Maybe I'll go for a bike ride and see if that helps the lymphatic.

Thanks

Eileen

My OS told me after my operation that doing straight leg lifts would help with

the swelling. It causes a massaging action in the muscles.

I heard acupuncture works but I have never tried it.
