Guest guest
Hi- I'm 27 and have had 13 knee surgeries including bilateral tibial tubercle transfers and VMO advancements. I had the TTT done on my right knee in 1998 and left knee in 2000. It went really well on my right knee but my left knee has required 2 subsequent surgeries. My left Q-angle was very high- around 23. I have been told by one of my previous ortho surgeons that I should have the TTT redone; however, many orthopedic surgeons now agree that the TTTs are outdated and replacements should be done instead if the patient is 40 or above. I went to an orthopedics seminar on knees recently. When I walk, my femur rotates inward causing excessive stress on the patella. Physical therapy has helped by strengthening my hip to prevent this femoral shift. The studies show that the results of a repeat TTT are variable. I've opted not to repeat the procedure since ceramic knee replacements that last a long time are right around the corner. Hope this helps.
