Guest guest
Ann, That is great to hear! Chris > Hiking was my sport before I got knee problems. 10 years ago I was climbing a mountain every weekend. Wow was I in shape! Then in '93 I began to get CP/ITBS pain but couldn't find help till '95, got a LR, and was 100% until '99, when I got a different job and the ITBS started up again, then I tore my meniscus. My last operation was Jan. this year -- removed the torn off part of the meniscus, smoothed down the CP places. The meniscus part helped a lot with pain from walking, but I still have to use McConnell tape to do quad strengthening, StairMaster, etc. > > So anyway, Monday I went hiking in the mountains for the first time in YEARS. More than half the trail was snow, so it was hard going, and it was 8500-9000 ft so the air was thin and I had to stop a lot because I'm not in aerobic shape. Whatever, I hiked 5 miles altogether, and it's been 2 days and so far I haven't had a bad knee reaction. I iced it Mon and Tue nights. That's all I did for it. I did use tape while hiking. I did have some mild irritation, esp. on downslopes (even mild ones), and expected to have a possibly violent pain followup but apparently that's not gonna happen. > > I'm really excited! This means that I can hike up there once a week, which will increase my O2 exchange efficiency, build up my legs, lose me some weight, and just in general make me very happy, because I'd rather be up there (the Sierra west and south of Lk Tahoe) than anywhere. It'll cost me about $90 more in gasoline per month, but I guess I'll just call that a medical expense. > > Ann > >
Guest guest
Good for you!! I thought you lived in the south... someone here does, I think. Yes, I guess with my tape I can make it down my little " hike " here in the burbs. Ah, the CP expense. My doc co-pay is $20 and a cab to get to pt and back is $15. Plus, I can't take the train into the city anymore, so it adds up! > Hiking was my sport before I got knee problems. 10 years ago I was climbing a mountain every weekend. Wow was I in shape! Guest guest
Actually I am FROM the South. Emphasis on FROM. I've live in California since '64, with a brief stint in MO in the early 70's, where I was chased out by tornadoes. Give me earthquakes over tornados any day.
