Hi

Yes it's me again !!!

As you will remember I told the net that a virus was being spread!!!!

That was on Monday last. Yet this evening I still get an e-mail via the

RemoteSupportMedic site that has the very same virus.

PLEASE SORT IT OUT

Thanks

,

I guess it's my job to check this out. As yet I haven't had

a hit against my own machine, so maybe the virus is coming to

you off-list by someone who's been infected.

With this in mind, can everyone make an effort to obtain and

maintain a virus checker and if necessary run a full sweep

of your hard drives from time to time.

When Ian gets back I will be asking him to alter a few settings

on the list delivery system which will limit virus transmission.

If there are any further concerns and also if anyone else has

been hit by the virus, please drop me a note offlist to

ross@...

I will be writing a quick guide for virus protection and issuing

it to the list over the next day or so.

I haven't received any virus from the remotemedics mailing list. It's

possible that you're being sent it directly from a listmembers computer who

has your address on their Address book. Some viruses also send themselves to

every address they can find in your inbox - so if someone has an old message

from you, the virus could be using it.

Someone on the 999.org.uk list is sending out a 'snow-white' virus

unwittingly and have been for months. It's not always obvious when you're

computer is infected if you're technically challenged!

Hi

I understand that several (two) people have not been " hit " by this.

However, I can only say that on the occasions that I have received this

virus was when downloading from this site.

I too use Norton (2001 version - automatically updated every five days) and

it tells me that this virus " W95.hybris.worm " arrived with messages from

this site.

Have those that say they haven't been hit, tested their systems against this

particular virus ??

I download many messages each day and this problem does not happen with any

other site.

I don't believe that my system is wrong, yet I'm not going to put up myself

as infallible, which system or operator is !!

Cheers and keep up the sterling work

I personally use McAfee (latest updates/search engine) and my system has no

problems, and i'm reasonable clued up with computers and viruses. Normally a

hybris virus is received as an attachment, and i've had none from the

remotemedics site.

Incidentally, it's not the same virus thats plagued the ECO list.

I have no idea why you're receiving viruses and i'm not.

No, three, this one on neither occasion.

Using F-Secure updated bi-weekly, auto-disk scan and Gatekeeper permanently

running.

Sorry, no Hybris reported.

Hi again

And thanks for your comments.

If it is not a problem that other users of the remotesupportmedic site are

getting, I will just have to sit down and sort out why it is happening to

me.

My original thought was to notify the site that I was getting these virus's

and perhaps safe having problems. This was achieved I hope.

Thanks again

,

If its coming over the list its not arriving on my laptop, if you think its

from a specific member I suggest a mail to tech services they

may well be able to help.
