Guest guest
Hi, my daughter is on antibiotics (and has been for weeks now). I gave her some mk grains in milk to take home. We were wondering , should she wait one more week till she is off the antibiotics, or should she drink the mk while on the antibiotics. Thank you, Lydia
Guest guest
my understanding is it won't hurt but the antibiotics will kill the good probiotics so I guess I would wait until after... Guest guest
Why wait? the abx are ramping up in your blood stream, your Kefir guys are working in your gut track. As Beth was saying, by taking the kefir midway between doses, it gives the abx time to be absorbed into your system, and the kefir can then hang out in your digestive track. Guest guest
Hi Lydia, I would definitely have her start the kefir asap, especially since she has already been on the antibiotics for so long. While it's true that some of the goodness of the kefir will likely be killed off her poor gut will benefit if she begins drinking kefir now. Hope she is better soon! Guest guest
Hi Lydia, Perhaps I'm a bit conservative on these matters, but I think it depends on the particular antibiotic and the effect dairy might have on its effectiveness or conversely, problems the antibiotic may impose on the digestion of dairy prodoucts. For instance, I sometimes take Cipro or Doxycycline, both of which have a " no dairy " window of several hours before taking and after taking. She can check the information sheet provided with her prescription, or look online for any pertinent instructions/warnings. That said, if there are no published warnings about dairy, she should be fine to start her kefir now. Beth > > Hi, my daughter is on antibiotics (and has been for weeks now). Guest guest
Ummm... you do know that antibiotics have and continue to save lives? And one of the reasons we have superbugs is that people stop taking the antibiotics before they were told to, thus not taking them long enough to kill off the strongest bugs? Right now we have an issue with medication resistant TB because medications for it were not taken consistantly or long enough. It's a big problem amongst the homeless. Certainly they have been and continue to be overused, and one should make informed decisions, but faced with the choice of dying of an acute bacterial pneumonia or meningitis or TB I'll take the antibiotics. None of us alive today have direct memory of when it was common for people to die of infectious diseases. So I guess it is easy to think of antibiotics as bad. They still do save lives. BUT mostly I would say, without knowing the individual, and why they have been prescribed antibiotics, one really cannot know if it is a good or bad thing for that one individual. I know this is off topic, and I appologize for continuing it, but the thought that Lydia might be made to feel bad or stop the antibiotics for her daughter because of a rational based on word roots of all things was too much for me. The word vagina literally means " sheath for a sword " but I'm not gonna put one in there! Anti- biotic - kills the life out of germs. It's just the name. She should drink several glasses, maybe 3 a day and make sure she is also eatin PRE-Biotics also...quinoa is one such prebiotic. Another way to get the good guys back into the gut is to take Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics. They are considered one of the best. > > You can find tons and tons of real health information on www.naturalnews.com and listen to the Bell show on the naturalnews radio or read his blog at www.robertscottbell.com. Guest guest
Nona, Excellent point. My thought is use antibiotics when absolutely necessary (life promoting) not to cure the flu. I worked several jobs where the crud would descend upon the workers and a lot of people would demand the doctor treat them with penicillin. That treatment does nothing to cure the flu. Flu is a virus! So guess what, when possibly they really need it the penicillin might not work because they become use to it! So I suggest take it if you have to and take all of it as prescribed, then go about rebuilding the gut flora with kefir.. n on > > > > My personal opinion about antibiotics is that 1 day is too many and personally, I would stop immediately even being in the middle of the prescription. Guest guest
I also said that I would personally stop taking the antibiotics, but that is just me and do would instead use all natural antibiotics. The reason for medication resistent bacteria and TB are the doctors prescribing antibiotics for everything under the sun and for things that have nothing to do with bacteria...cold, or other viruses or long term antibiotics for acne...they do this just to make the patient feel better that they " did something. " I'm not against all antibiotics, only the pharmacutical kind. The natural antibiotics have NEVER caused any microbe to be resistent, it's only the synthetic ones that do that. There are many other natural, more powerful antibiotics that work much better and do not destroy your health in the mean time. My health has greatly suffered from pharmacutical antibiotics, even long term antibiotics. Colloidal Silver is a much better option for antibiotics than what you get from the drug companies. Silver used to be THE ANTIBIOTIC that western medicine used to use prior to getting a patent on the synthetic version. You might want to see who owns the patent on the antibiotics. Western medicine does not use any natural antibiotics (silver, copper, gold, manuka honey, aloe vera, coconut oil, cinnamon, etc.) or other natural substances to heal the body because they cannot patent it. Follow the money. Silver even has regenerative properties to rebuild the tissue that has been destroyed, pharmacutical antibiotics do NOT do that, ever. Most people do not know about the history of silver or other natural foods and nutrients, it's not because they don't work, it's only because it's competition for the drug companies and they hate competition. You may not be aware of this, but natural antibiotics have been proven to treat MRSA, something that the strongest antibiotics on the market can NEVER do. Scientists Document How Manuka Honey Fights Superbugs http://www.naturalnews.com/027170_honey_Manuka_bacteria.html Here is the history of silver http://www.silver-colloids.com/Pubs/history-silver.html Al Re: antibiotics Ummm... you do know that antibiotics have and continue to save lives?
