I use an older model tupperware microwave steamer. I got rid of the

microwave and no longer use one of those around here but the steamer makes

a great colander/strainer and the strainer part sets into the bowl slightly

so works well to dump the kefir in there and then just giggle it until

the majority of the kefir settles into the bowl below. You can get them on

ebay for fairly inexpensive.

I had to recently replace my old Tupperware food strainer and I found one online

from Amazon. It is the BEST strainer for MKG. I have not tried the new version

that is currently in the catalog but the old style is perfect. It can often be

found in second hand shops, garage sales and online. Do a Google search to see

if you can find one. Ebay is another possible source.

Hope this helps!

Plastic strainers seem hard to find local I ordered a 5 inch from amazon.com.

Just to note; I also recently received (6) 1/2 gallon wide mouth ball mason

jars. They are very useful!

I'm using a plastic collander/strainer but the holes are a little bigger than I

like. From posts here I do know not to use silicone or stainless steel but was

curious about the gold filter.

amazon.com search HIC Brands that Cook Nylon Mesh Strainer. I selected 5 1/2

inch, I am making alot of Kefir and this strainer is awesome!! Two dumps in the

strainer and you have completed a quart of kefir and all the MKG is left behind.

I also started using the 1/2 gallon Ball Mason Jars and they are ideal when I

have kefir grains over what is required for 1 quart! Search amazon: Jarden

68100 6 Count Wide Mouth Canning Jars. Mine arrived unbroken and they did a

great job packing them for shipping! The only other suggestion and is very

wonderful is the (search amazon) Pyrex Prepware 8-Cup Measuring Cup, Clear with

Red Lid and Measurements (expensive but worth it). Once again awesome and makes

your kefir hobby delightful!

Happy Kefiring
