Guest guest
My danes get kefir (1 cup/dane) each meal (2 times a day) since 3 years now. As for my cats, I find it depends: someday they will eat it and other days, they will leave it. Anyway I offer them every day. He has something on his lungs, though I'm leaning towards kitty emphazeima/asthma. The vet said it was either lung cancer or that, and the treatment was the same if I wasn't going to do biopsy/chemo. I told her it's hard enough going through chemo when you are human and know what's going on. To put a kitty through it... no. She agreed. But on his steroid therapy, he's doing quite well. Still, I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on sharing kefir with our furry friends. Guest guest
Do a google search on animals and kefir. I think you would find many testimonials to using kefir with pets. I give it to my dogs, and they lap it up. Animals need the probiotics and other good life in kefir as much as we do. Especially in this time when there are so many pollutants just waiting for us and our animals. I have given kefir for my dogs whenever I have made it for myself starting some 12 or 15 years ago. Guest guest
I feed my Great Danes raw and as much organic as I can. They have been getting yogurt and occasionally store bought kefir (I found a brand at the local international store that stocked a Russian brand which contained milk and kefir culture, nothing else). I would make more from that, but it would stop making, etc. Then my friend, who must be the poster child for MKG, told me aout how the kefir made with the grains has affected her life in the last 6 months since she got her grains from a friend. I sent off for mine as soon as I got home. I have done a bit of battle with mine as they went from being a couple of Tbsps of grains to a hulking mass of MKG. This in 3 days, so I have bottles of kefir in the fridge. And that is all good because my dogs LOVE the kefir, and the grains especially. My Harl girl stands next to me when I am straining and switching bottles. The boy and the pup are following her lead. I can't wait to see what I have to report in 6 months! Guest guest
Yes, dogs for sure love kefir milk and our cat also laps . As for our dogs, they would never pass it up. Once my husband strained the MKG and set the grains on the edge of counter while he fed the dogs their kefir milk. Something came up which caused him to step outside for a few mintues. When he came back, the grains were all gone. Our Pyrenees dog noticed them sitting near the edge of the counter and helped herself to ALL of them. I was not home so when my husband called to tell me, I told him to call our friend and get some MKG to replace. When I got home the next day, went to strain the MKG and noticed how funny the grains looked. Turned out my husband got Water Kefir grains and put them into the milk. Needless to say, the milk did not turn out, was fully runny yet. So back to friends he went for the right grain. Feed the milk kefir to your fur pets and my chickens love any extra wkg but I usually eat them instead. I attribute our dogs' lovely fur to the milk kefir.
