Guest guest
Wow, you guys are such an awesome mixture of sprouters/gardners and now I've even discovered a Bacteriapimp! LOL! Now that I got off work, I could read your site properly(: Awesome info! and it made me laugh! (you DO seem like you still live in the 60ths( I'd love be able to make those fuzzy kambucha drinks! Too bad I didn't find your page before my 1st attempt.. Can you try and tell me if my scobby is still safe to use and alive? This is how it looks like now: http://tinypic.com/r/8ytm6x/6 it's been " fermenting " for 3 and a half days, and it doesn't seem to move.it was laying sideways the same way since day 1.. my mistakes were many: 1. using unboiled and unfilter tap water to wash the scoby before moving it to a bigger jar. (and removing dark spots from the sides of the scoby while I was at it..) 2. using a combination of red tea with tulsi (the tulsi tea is probably too oily right?) 3. using dates (blended with filtered but unboiled water) instead of white sugar. 4. putting it in a closed cupboard because I've read it needs to ferment in a dark place (later I moved it to the kitchen counter instead (so it'll get fresh air) 5. I strained the tea via a metal strainer before adding it to the jar for the fermentation stage (is that alright as a strainer? or you should not use metal at all?) 6. currently I use a medical bandage cloth to seal the jar, but I'd like to use this cloth instead: http://tinypic.com/r/2qx174i/6 Does it look breathable enough? Thanks! Yair P.S, I'm not there yet but I'm curious to know..why is the 8 Ounce limit for drinking Kambucha?

Guest guest
, If you can find some bottled Kombucha in the store you can create your own culture from them, no need to buy from somebody else!Just pour about 4 bottles into your glass jar with the rest of the recipe (4 teabags worth of tea that's brewed 15+min, 1 cup sugar, sat to room temp, PER gallon). It takes a while longer because you're working with colony fragments that will need to grow, but about a month later you can check on it and see it's progress (wait till the SCOBY has become a " pancake " reaching to all sides of jar until ready). Hope this helps! > > > > > > > > > > > > Its called Dave's GT Synergy Kombucha Tea... you can make your own > > > > scoby with a bottle of the Original flavor of Dave's. > > > > > > > > Lots cheaper that way!! > > > > > > > > Patti > > > > > > > > > > > > ________________________________ > > > > From: PickPinkFlowers <haggisisscotsfood@ > > > > <mailto:haggisisscotsfood%40>> > > > > <mailto:%40> > > > > Sent: Mon, June 7, 2010 2:03:17 PM > > > > Subject: Kombucha > > > > > > > > I have been buying it at the health food store, but it is expensive. Guest guest
Oh yeah... also if you just emptied the contents of a non pasteurized kombucha tea beverage into a jar... a culture shoud form on top of your jar in a couple of weeks... it looks ugly but that's it... wait til the culture is about a quarter of an inch thick or so... good luck From: wheresmarvel <wheresmarvel@...> Subject: Re: Kombucha Date: Saturday, July 31, 2010, 5:53 PM Â , If you can find some bottled Kombucha in the store you can create your own culture from them, no need to buy from somebody else!Just pour about 4 bottles into your glass jar with the rest of the recipe (4 teabags worth of tea that's brewed 15+min, 1 cup sugar, sat to room temp, PER gallon). Hi , I wonder, is your Kombucha very acidic? It may be too much for your digestion to cope with it if it is too sour. I drink my KT when it has reached a pleasant apple-juice-like flavour, round about brewing day 7. It is advisable to drink acidic KT with water or juice. This might help your digestion to get over the newness of the drink. I personally have never had any bad reactions to KT, only good ones. I should persist for a little while longer. Avoid hitting your stomach with direct acidity. Hope you can get your problem solved satisfactorily. Guest guest
Maybe it is your Kombucha. Did you get one from a reputable grower. Not all Kombucha are the same. Once a Kombucha has been grown improperly and ruined it can never be fixed. If you think it was raised properly than maybe try taking your k-tea after your meals or during. Best wishes, From: cynthiastem Sent: Thursday, March 03, 2011 12:59 PM To: original_kombucha Subject: Kombucha For some reason I have noticed that kombucha makes me feel bad, even in really very small amounts. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I eat a pretty WAPF (Weston Price) diet and stay away from processed foods like the plague so I am not inclined to think it is detox. I don't drink very much of it. I was so excited about it and now I am thinking of quitting. So disappointing. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts as I don't want to make a hasty and unwise decision. Guest guest
Hi , If you are going to try a store brand, the national unpasteurized ones are Hi Country and GTs. There may be many other brands available too, I just don't know where you live. Look for raw (avoid wonder drink) and have in small amounts, and watch your reaction. As Bev & I both said, maybe Kombucha is not for you? If so, there are many other options but none as versatile as Kombucha imho. It might also be a caffeine reaction, if you are especially sensitive as you say....I wrote a post about kombucha & caffeine here: http://www.kombuchakamp.com/2011/03/kombucha-and-caffeine-explained.html And here's a video about making decaf Kombucha tea: http://www.kombuchakamp.com/2011/03/how-to-make-decaf-kombucha-video-tip.html Wishing you luck ! Guest guest
Hello Marilyn, I saw in your reply to another question that you keep you Kombucha in another room. I'm new at EVERTHING, but jumped in ALL of it with both feet. I also have Kombucha - in another room. I read (only in one place) NOT to drink both Kefir and Kombucha (the same day perhaps, but saw no other similar advice anywhere else). Since the Kombucha can sit, I have been only drinking Kefir. I actually had so much, my grains are resting. I do not have Water Kefir - just Milk in both raw goat and raw cow. I even saw a few places on the internet where people intentionally combined their water Kefir with their Kombucha SCOBY to create a " hybrid " . I'm a " purist " basically, but what do you think of that idea? Do you drink both Kombuca and Kefir in the same day? Are there any real concerns with this? I'd be interested in what others consume. Thank you, phine
