What to do with your grains when you are away for a few days

I am looking for some suggestions on what to do with my mkg when I am away for a

few days, home for a day, and and then away for a few more days. I know putting

them in the fridge slows them down a bit, but when I tried that (my " good " milk

supply had run out and I put them in the fridge to wait for more, 2 days max in

fridge) the kefir came out REALLY runny, no substance to it at all. The grains

took a bit to bounce back to making the wonderful kefir that we all love. I am

wondering if there is something else I need to do for this little hiatus to keep

my kefir babies happy. I really would hate to harm them in any way. Maybe I need

a kefir babysitter...

Thanks in advance,

Janine

Why not freeze them? Those were the instructions I got from the person who

sent me my grains this time: freeze what I cannot use. I froze half of them,

then one day decided I needed to use more than I was using, took half of

what I had frozen out, used them, and they worked very well. Not as creamy

the first day or two, but very very creamy now.
