Guest guest
Hi all, I bought some water kefir from Marilyn a few months back. The first batch was phenomenal, the best I've ever had. Since then not so good. The next batch ended up " weedy " , thick, smelly and brownish. I rinsed well, and tried many things including (or leaving out) eggshell, ginger, dried fruit, lemon slice. I use well water (tested clean, is softened) and organic sugar. I've tried resting in the refrigerator several times (just sugar and water). I make sure the sugar is dissolved in the water. I haven't had the " weedy " batch again, but most of the time now it ends up thick like egg white. I've had a couple okay batches, but they aren't consecutive. When I dumped the last " egg white " batch, I noticed it was very foamy going down the drain, which makes me think high protein? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
If your well water is softened that means salt has been added correct? I thought people used the softened water for bathing, laudry, etc only and unsoftened for drinking. You might want to try unsoftened water. Guest guest
Hi , Keep them at room temp. " Resting " them in the refrigerator serves to put them more out of balance than they already are. Rinse them really well every time. They picked up a " thickness causing bacteria " and water will rinse it away normally in a time or two. Figure out where it came from. Usually fruit or well water that has bacteria. Use only sugar and water for a few times usually gets rid of it. Add back in one item at a time and if it becomes thick, that is the offending item.
