Guest guest
I buy raw goat milk from a girl down the road and wonder what may have happened last week. The milk is normally fine. Not goaty, but sweet, makes good kefir. On Friday I made kefir as usual and it came out foul. It tasted like goat dirt. Not that rank billy goat smell sometimes encountered, but more like it had turned sour. I talked to the girl today and she says the milk in question was fresh, milked that morning. The udder was wiped and the jar was clean. She thinks the goat ate something offensive. I think the milk was either left out in the heat for a while or it was contaminated with goat manure. Any insights from you goat keepers? Also my kefir grains, lovingly fed and nourished for months, are going to the chickens. I'm glad I put aside extras in the freezer. Hydie whose son and German-born DIL pronounce it kuh-feer.
