Guest guest
I received my WKG years ago and they multiplied considerably with every ferment. I dried most of them for later use and was experimenting with one lone cluster with culturing juice only. They lasted about a year and then began to cease growing and multiplying. I then dried them as I had a lot going on in my personal life and couldn't care for them as I should. At any rate, early this year I revived a couple batches of my dried grains (not the juice only ones) and they will not multiply like they used to. I think my city may have added something else to our water. I never had to even filter it before. Now, even with filtering and letting it sit for at least two days, adding a pinch of baking soda and a slight sprig of vit. c powder (which was discussed in a post years ago to help with one of the city water additives), organic dried cane & /or raw coconut sugar & /or organic raw brown sugar & /or blackstrap molasses, fresh organic lemons, dried currents and egg shells my grains are getting mushy and slimy. (I even tried coconut water and mineral waters) I have tried rinsing them with filtered water and soaking for a couple hours in baking soda water to no avail. They still culture fine...they just aren't happy and firm or propogating. One batch is worse than the other; but, I think that is because I used some dried mangos from Mexico that I now suspect have sulfer in them though the label doesn't say so. Does anybody know what could be causing this change in vitality? I have assumed it was because of the city water and the dried fruit from Mexico. Any other ideas or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Guest guest
Leave the lemon out. Coconut water can sometimes make them turn to mush. Use sugar and water only until they firm up. It may take weeks. And sign your name in the future so we know who you are.
