Guest guest
Hello all! I am new to group and making Kefir. I have tried to locate RAW milk and have had no success. I have read that if not used the grain could eventually " die " . This has me wondering if I should even begin to try and make Kefir at home. I have tried the store bought Kefir and I love the benefits, was thinking homemade could be even better. If I can't find Raw Milk will I be wasting my time and money? Would love any and all advice possible. Thank you,
Guest guest
I've been using the same grains in pasteurized milk for about 7 or 8 years now with no problem. Fr. Guest guest
Just use pasteurized whole milk. Try to avoid anything labelled as ULTRA-pasteurized. You should have no problems. It is true that raw is best. I can't legally buy raw milk either so I just use a good pasteurized whole milk and my grains grow like crazy and I still get most of the benefits. If you notice benefits from the store bought stuff, I am sure you will see even greater results with home-made, even using pasteurized milk. -- Schmidt “How can a nation be great if its bread tastes like Kleenex?” ~ Child On Fri, Mar 25, 2011 at 1:12 PM, <cenyart@...> wrote: > > > Hello all! Guest guest
Have you looked on craigslist and realmilk.com? On Fri, Mar 25, 2011 at 2:12 PM, <cenyart@...> wrote: > > > Hello all! Guest guest
Hi , The information you received was not correct because the kefir grains don't care if the milk is raw. They just want milk. I have been using regular pasteurized homogenized whole milk from the grocery store, nothing special, but the kefir sure makes it special, and the grains grow and thrive in plain old grocery store milk. They won't die. -------------------------------------------------- From: " " <cenyart@...> > Hello all! I am new to group and making Kefir. I have tried to locate RAW > milk and have had no success. Guest guest
I do believe that the majority of home MKefir brewing is done with NON-raw milk as most urban families like myself have no practical access to Raw milk. I suspect that the " death " of cultures in normal dairy pasteurised milk is more likely due to lack of care or poor technique. I would consider the absolute need for raw milk to be an urban myth Rod On Sat, Mar 26, 2011 at 5:12 AM, <cenyart@...> wrote: > > Hello all! I am new to group and making Kefir.
