Guest guest
I would like to express my thanks to Marilyn for growing such active grains. I started with the dehydrated package that one purchases in the health stores. Though they said you may get 5 or so batches out of a package, mine have been going for three months. 80% are coarse salt size, 20% are chunky rice size. After receiving grain from Marilyn, I decided to transmogrified them to use in Juices. Following Marilyn instructions somewhat, after 48 hours, they were percolating along nicely producing 20 oz of a apple juice product. I am amassed by all this. Just wanted to share this with the group Vernon

Guest guest
I froze mine by just putting the grains in a plastic bag and vacuum sealing it (no milk added). I wrote the date on the bag then put it in a ziplock for added protection from freezer burn (don't know if it was necessary). I had a few of them in the ziplock for a few months when I needed to get one out because I managed to kill the one I was using. I just put it in milk and it didn't take any time at all to get back to doing great. Another month or two after that I dug into the freezer to give some grains to a friend; I put them in milk because I wanted to be sure they were ok before giving them to her. The next day they looked like they should. Guest guest
Hi to Jodie and anyone else ... I had some frozen a couple years ...most of them possibly just several months. ALL have revived successfully. Some I kept for a few days in separate milk, some I had put in with my current " on the counter " ones. I did not send any out to anyone else till I was sure they were not only making kefir again ...but also growing. From Marilyn & others I have gathered the information that sometimes when grains are used in other types of juices, etc. they may still " kefirize " things ...but will be non-propagable (not grow) again. So, I've always tried to check them to see that freezing did not have that effect, and so far it hasn't .. they cultivate kefir AND grow again.
