how old does a baby need to be before starting on kefir? my 6 month old

granddaughter is on amoxicillin for an ear infection. she started this on

tuesday. by thursday afternoon her poor bottom was so inflamed and she had bad

diarrhea. she's breastfed and just recently started on sw. potatoe, squash and

apples. is she too young to mix a bit of kefir into the food to try to restore

some good bacteria in her gut? thanks much,

~~cindy~~

I sure wouldn't be afraid to mix a VERY small amount into her food. I would

also do the research ear infections and antibiotics for ear infections. Too

often the ear will heal on its own and there is no need for the baby to suffer

through this. There are healthy alternatives that have great success rates.

Babies should be at least three days old before introducing kefir. At six

months she can drink kefir made of either raw cows milk or raw goats milk.

Under two months I'd say it would be best if the kefir was made from raw

goats milk or mothers milk. I am being rather arbitrary about the ages. In

any case, pay attention to how she reacts and adjust the amounts.

Thanks,

Marilyn

The statements below are total misinformation. Properly cared for raw milk is

the only safe milk to drink.

Pasteurization of milk is an excuse for filthy diaries.

Marilyn

One should never feed a baby or child any raw milk; there is a reason why

pasteurisation is mandatory.

Do you really want to expose a baby to any of the microorganisms floating

around in raw milk?

THANKS for clarifying that, Marilyn. It is so sad that too many people believe

this because they've been trained to believe it. Raw milk is the ONLY healthy

milk for any human being to ever consume, IMO.

In Wisconsin, it is very hard to get raw milk. That is the reason I make

yogurt and kefir. I want to put enzymes and bacteria back into my milk.

I long for the day we can all obtain raw milk from clean, healthy farms.

Sometimes I wonder if statements like that come from government agents who

have joined my group. I mean it is becoming common knowledge that it

is unhealthy to drink pasteurized milk.

Marilyn,

I do not doubt that it was the feds. If they have the gall to waste our tax

dollars harassing small local dairy farmers then they would definitely stoop

that low.

I have a cow share and meet my farmer in a parking lot at a local church. She

delivers to several cities within our state one day a week. It is crazy that we

have to get our raw milk from the farmer under a veil of secrecy because the

Michigan Milk Producers organization own the local politicians. You would think

we are plotting to overthrow the government. LOL!

My farmer used to supply milk to the Organic Pastures brand of organic milk but

they threaten them that if they continued to sell raw milk as well their

contract would not be renewed. The farmer told them that their belief in raw

milk was stronger than their need for Organic Valley's contract and told them to

bug off. They picked up a contract with Horizon brand milk. Whew! The milk

producer organizations are becoming like the automotive teamsters in trying to

bully the farmers into stopping their cow shares. Yay for my farmer for

standing up to them. I love my farmer! I have recruited several of the docs

and many of my others I know into becoming customers of my farmer and they will

be recipients of some of my kefir grains as well. I am near Ann Arbor, MI and

we can have cow shares to get our milk, but the local milk producers would love

to shut that down.

Have you seen the latest anti-raw milk campaign propaganda by the FDA at their

website? " Just ask . . . . " It is designed to scare those considering raw milk

away from it. I do think that any half-way intelligent person will research and

make the right decisions in spite of government propaganda. I can just see it

now, " REAL Americans drink PASTEURIZED milk " LOL!

I used garlic ear oil on our baby after he had reacquiring ear infections from

an allergy to dairy protein and soy.  We got it at our local health food store.

It has things to elevate pain and the garlic helps to kill infection.

I swear by it.  No ear infections in 10 month know.  He had 8 in the first 9

months of his life it was terrible.  The ear oil saved us from having to have

him on constant meds.
