Guest guest
oooops, I think I forgot to sign my last post, sorry. Just wondering if raw honey is ok to use as a sweetner with Kefir? thanks Dawn
Guest guest
Dawn, I've been using Da Vinci sugar free gourmet syrups in mine, until I recently bought some bulk vanilla beans and started making my own (much less expensive) syrups using Splenda. I know purists will frown but I need to stay low carb and plain kefir is just undrinkable for me. With syrup, it tastes like a lovely, fizzy milkshake. So I would say, honey or whatever sweetener you choose is just fine. It's not going to harm the kefir, if that's what's worrying you. > > oooops, I think I forgot to sign my last post, sorry. Guest guest
Sweet leaf stevia in different flavors is what I put in mine. I have the berry flavor for my fruit flavored smoothies...and once I accidently put the toffee flavoring in with the fruit and it was still pretty good. I think if I added carob and bananas to my smoothie then the toffee would be really good. The bottles are about $10 a piece and they last a long time since you don't need a lot to sweeten the smoothie. hth B ======== Dawn, I've been using Da Vinci sugar free gourmet syrups in mine, until I recently bought some bulk vanilla beans and started making my own (much less expensive) syrups using Splenda. *snip* ========
Guest guest
Thankyou , I had no idea that stevia came in flavors. I will have to look for that. Guest guest
Thankyou , yes that is what I was worried about. I know that raw honey has the ability to heal and be antibacterial so I was concerned about using it in the kefir.I guess if it is in the strained kefir it wouldn't matter. Guest guest
Please - do remember that honey (especially direct from the apiarist) is a very effective in fighting infection - for example it is a back country emergency remedy for dressing skin wounds! . I would not commend it for adding to something you are consuming for the friendly yeasts and bacteria. Probably would be the equivalent of pasteurisation Regards - Rod On Fri, Mar 25, 2011 at 6:40 AM, danebreak <izspots@...> wrote: > oooops, I think I forgot to sign my last post, sorry. Guest guest
Hi Rod, yes you are very right, I had a dane that had an awful lick granuloma on her front leg. After trying everything else(and failing) I slathered it with raw honey wrapped it in gause and then vet wrap. I changed it every couple of days. Not only did it heal completely but the hair even grew back. Not short of miraculous! Dawn > > > oooops, I think I forgot to sign my last post, sorry.
