Guest guest
Dave, I've had 3 EMG/NCV's in my life - well 2 and 1/2 really. The first one wasn't completed. I was only 15, and in 1967 the EMG was done by some tech students at UCLA and it was quite barbaric and tramautizing for me. I cried and screamed so much my mother came in the room and demanded they stop and we went home. A few months later, I had one full EMG done by a doctor in his office and the test was completed. It hurt, but I endured, at least he had some compassion. In 1999, I had my first Adult EMG/NCV. The test was done by a doctor (M.D.) who specialises in these tests and remembered me from UCLA days. While I was somewhat nervous, remembering the past, he put me at ease, so did his staff, the needles are MUCH smaller and didn't seem to have to be put in so deep. He was so professional and compassionate while doing the testing, talking to me the whole time, explaining things as he was doing them, etc. It wasn't barbaric or traumatizing this time. I thought about taking a sedative, but didn't. Maybe this site has some info you can use in preparation http://www.teleemg.com/ ~ Gretchen Yes, you can take a mild sedative, before the testing, as Dr. Younger at NYU told me, as long as it doesn't knock you out or make you uncooperative. Guest guest
i had an EMG done a number of years ago.. i didn't find the test to be uncomfortable or anything.. but also ended up in a really interesting conversation with the neuro doc so maybe that took the edge off.. i do have neuoropathy as well and sympotom wise looked like i had carpel tunnel.. the EMG was virtually normal with only minor indications.. it definately did not explain the symoptoms at all... blessings lizRose <rose2617@...> wrote: I would also like to know if anyone had this test and it showed any results. I had it done a year ago because of numbness and tingling in my feet. Did not show any nerve damage. Really did not like that test and refused when they wanted to repeat it last month. The neuropathy in my feet has continued to get worse. Now experiencing pain for the first time. Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
I had this done on my arms last year by my neuro and it was uncomfortable, slightly painful, but not unbearable. He mentioned doing the same on my legs but said it would be much more uncomfortable/painful and he would prefer not to do it. He did find that I had carpal tunnel in my right hand which explained the symptoms all the way up into my shoulder, and the beginnings of carpal tunnel in my left. This doctor, though seemingly very knowledgeable & open minded and very nice, does NOT listen to me. Actually, I think he listens but doesn't believe me. He thinks my headaches are migraines even though I've told him many times they are not. I've had migraines since I was a small child and these chronic headaches I have now are NOT the same. He also wants to blame several symptoms on the meds he has given me even though I had them BEFORE the meds and I've told him this many times. The tingling and numbness in my hands and feet for instance were present long before I ever even saw him... sorry, a little vent here. I guess I should see if there are any other neuros locally that might want to hear and believe me. He just seems like a very good doctor except for the one thing and it's such a pain in the butt searching for good doctors and seeing new doctors all the time having to explain everything (as you all know). Anyway Sandie, let us know how it goes. Sounds like it's not bad for everyone, tolerable for some of us. I hope you get some answers and some relief. Hugs, Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
I had this test done last November. They found that I do have neuoropathy plus 2 pinched nerves in my back along with the Fibro. Just for Social Security that I am trying to get we do the Coddle Blocks in my back every 8 weeks. Plus I also have taken Lyrica. Found that it really does not do anything for me. Maybe the dose was not high enough I dont know. As he had me on 150 mg a day. Plus also I have taken cymbalta found that the only thing it helps with the fibro is the depression some. Not much help with the pain. So far they have found nothing other than strong pain pills like Oxycodone or something in that nature that helps with the pain on me. My job of standing at a desk (was a hotel desk clerk) put me in so much pain that I cant do the job any more. Have been off a year so far. Go turned down on the 1st try with Social security and also on the reconsider. So now we are waiting for a trial date. After a sleep study was done earlier in the month they found out that I do not get any REM sleep. I also breathe below 89% oxygen for more than 105 minutes. I am wondering if this is because of the pain in me that it hurts less to breathe less deeply. Oh well more to come I guess. Have a great day! Guest guest
I agree with you, I had a nerve pain in my lower left leg from a fall in Jan. 07 that only went away with the Lyrica, after getting thru the side effects. (And I agree that it does not help much with my Fibro pain.) I just had to start the Lyrica slowly, 75 mg in the pm for a week, than started it in the am (2-3 hours before getting up for the day) for a while and then my doctor upped it to 150 mg twice a day. I know if I forget one, my lower left let starts aching again!! Just wanted to put in another testimony for Lyrica working and its worth getting thru the side effects, they do go away. Hugs, Michele ----- Original Message ----- From: in AZ Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 2:44 PM I have neuropathy in both legs and feet - the Lyrica (once I got through the side effects) has been a Godsend for me for that. Not sure it's done much for the fibro - the neuropathy pain is VERY different than the fibro pain in my body at least. good luck! in Phx
Guest guest
I have a friend who had RSD and she can tell if she is an hour late taking her Lyrica. I will have to see what the Rhuemy orders, since I get my care at the VA, have to go with what they have on the formulary. I know they have the neurontin/gabapentin. Neuropathy pain is nerve pain, that is so much different than the pain from fibro, that is for sure. I am getting some sleep with taking my lortab. Really don't like taking it as it knocks me out and leaves me feeling hung over. Guest guest
If I forgot my Lyrica I can tell within an hour also. I keep some in my desk now because I forgot my pill box (OMG I have two of them - one for night and one for day!) and I absolutely cannot miss my Lyrica so I had to drive all the way home for it and then go back to work. Not great for gas conservation! So I keep some extra Lyrica t my desk just in case I get forgetful again. The problem was I filled them Sunday night and forgot to put it in my purse. - who cannot ever go without the Lyrica again I wish it would get cheaper! Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
