I personally started taking Creatine after my hubby read an article about it.

I have now been on it for 3 months, doing the same exercise I was doing

before and I have noticed my legs feel stronger and I enjoy walking farther than

before. I could walk 1/2 mile before now I am up to 1 mile and I feel great.

I asked my doctor about using the Creatine and he said in low dose to give it

a try he didn't think it could hurt me and he said if I maintained my muscle

mass in my legs it would be worth it.

Chuck,

On that Creatine research - it is a specific study on the effects of

Creatine on resistance training exercise in people with CMT. The

patients responded to resistance training with muscle fiber adaptations,

and improvements in strength and function, but the Creatine was not a

factor. Exercise alone produced the improvements.

You didn't mention if you exercise or not. Every year at my annual

physical, my Internist orders routine blood tests (the norm) and

included in this is a test to check my Creatine levels. Since my body is

making enough Creatine for me, I do not require supplementation.

Perhaps you might want to check with your doctor on this. You said you

have been taking it for 5 years with minimal effect. It just could be

your body is making enough on its own and the rest (supplemental) is

eliminated.

Also, maybe you or your doctor might want to read the whole report in

July's Muscle and Nerve. I believe one time access is $25.00

I can put you/your doctor in touch with the lead researcher on this

study - please email me privately.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Sherry,

I take creatine every day and I have CMT, I also work out 4 days a week when I

first started to exercise I was getting vary sore that I could hardly move so I

started the do some research on Creatine and I started to take it and the

soreness went away. Creatine is produced by your body so it's natural it has no

effect that I know of I've been taking it for about 5 years now and I think it

helps my muscles. Is your son going to be exercising or is he just going to be

taking it, He should still get some help even if he doesn't exercise. Hope this

helps.

I am old and my hubby read about Creatine almost 2 years ago and I started on

it. I have seen a definite difference in my leg strength. I am amazed.
