I would like to ask Lucinda a question about Potpourri...what is a good

scent for this time of year...of course keeping in mind Valentine's Day. I

made potpourri for Christmas and it sold better than I ever dreamed.

Thank you.

Hey Gwen,

I would guess the classic of " rose " scent or lavender would be good for

valentines day along with patchouli because it is suppose to invoke the

passions of hot steamy love making.....

bahaaaaaaaaaa

and combo of lavender ,patchouli and amber...very yummy and romantic

sandalwood and rose...yummy too.

sandalwood and lime !!

that's all I can think of right now..

AUTUMN POTPOURRI

Some essential oils to use for autumn include:

Bergamot, Sandalwood, Allspice leaf, Bay-laurel, Cinnamon, Clove, Orange,

Nutmeg, Cedarwood, Cedar, Ginger & Cypress.

To make an Autumn Potpourri gather a selection of woodland ingredients, for

example, pine cones, attractive piece of dried wood, corn cobs, orange peel,

cloves, cinnamon chips or cinnamon sticks broke up, and then add some pretty

Chinese lanterns to top it off.

Make sure none of the woodland ingredients has insects......then add ;

1 tablespoon sandalwood powder(can be found at health-food stores)

1/2 teaspoon powdered nutmeg

2 drops cypress essential oil

2 drops cedarwood essential oil

2 drops orange essential oil

2 drops clove essential oil

2 drops sandalwood oil

Once mixed you can put it in a plastic bag, (I use the brown grocery sacks

and line them with wax paper)....shake well, leave for two or three weeks

before displaying or give as gifts.

I have a question for all the potpourri makers. I have never seen any

recipes for this, are there any? How hard is it to make, as far as amount

of raw materials hanging around. I don't have much storage. How do you

know you will like the way a blend looks? DO you just buy small amounts

until you decide what you like? Thanks for the help guys.

Hi,

I make potpourri.

What do you want to know?

If you mean how do you scent it than that depends on what ingredients you

are using? you can use a product called verniculite which is one of the

best ways to fragrance anything with petals (e.g rose) because if you put

oil on it damages them and the fragrance won't last long anyway. But if you

use dried oranges etc than they have a fragrance of there own. It just

depends want you want. Floral or exotic pods and dried fruit and nuts, or

you can use some naturally scented stuff like cinnamon, clove etc.

Happy to help if you need more information.

,

Do you use a fixative? I use orris root (powder or pieces) and really

have noticed the difference in the length of time the scent lasts.

I look forward to hearing what others use... :-) Tenille
