I have one that I learned at the health resort that I attended recently. A

potato poultice. Just grate some potato and spread it onto a chux wipe or a

piece of gauzy material. Lay it on over the boil, cover with plastic and wrap

with a piece of material to hold it in place.

I have one an old lady on the bayou taught me for a boil. Put a little olive

oil in an iron skillet and add a handful of peach leaves (they have a nervine

in them). Gently simmer until a little bit limp. Then add enough cornmeal

to make a mush. Slap this on the boil/cyst/carbunkle while still hot (but

not hot enough to burn, of course). Cover with a cloth. After about 20 min

to 1/2 hour, remove compress and apply a glass (the type for an

old-fashioned), that has been heated. The first will draw to the surface and

soften. The glass will provide suction to draw it out of the skin. Judgment

is needed to know when to apply the glass since it would be useless if the

boil, etc., hasn't reached the point where it can be drawn out. However, the

compress works all the time.

That is interesting, my Mum used to do that, and I have forgotten it.

Actually, my favorite, cheapest and most effective treatment has always been

to apply hot salt water, cover with plastic wrap and then some sort of warm

covering like a heating pad set on low. You can leave on all day and night.

It draws, cleanses and opens. This is a great tx for a felon (around a

nail), too.
