Guest guest
>>The trick here is to take a basic lip balm recipe and adjust it by either increasing the amount of oil, AND/OR decreasing the amount of wax.<< Thanks again, NightShade! :-) I appreciate your help. I don't know, petroleum jelly might be a good consistency for lip balm ... what I liked about Yves Rocher's lip balm is that it goes on so smoothly and is kind of " sticky, " and it feels like my lips are really getting coated! :-) I love the lip balms that I make, too, but Yves Rocher has some good stuff. I will definitely have fun experimenting! :-) >>I LOVE Yves Rocher!!! Their derma-controle cream works well, and I love their Ming Shu fragrance. I really would like to find a recipe for their ADN Revitalizing Day Cream. That stuff works great on my dry skin.<< I love the Ming Shu fragrance, too! But my very very favorite is Rose Ispahan. That's truly my favorite perfume. I love the shower gel in that scent, too. I've heard that they're discontinuing it, and I am VERY upset about that -- so I plan to order all I can before it is gone!!! :-( I have a special story behind that perfume that I won't go into here because it's too long of a story, but I wore that perfume on my wedding day. :-) Anyway, Yves Rocher rocks!!! I am going " no mail " because I will be in Indiana tomorrow through the 11th. So take care, guys, and talk to you when I get back! nne (Albany, NY) :-)

But now that I've learned more about what's in products and what's good for the skin, I'm more inclined to make the " unpetroleum jelly " , altering it so that it becomes a hybrid between the jelly and a lip balm. I love experimenting, and often think the formulating and experimenting side is my forte. I can sit for hours formulating and reformulating soaps, lotions, etc, changing ingredients as new ideas pop into my mind. The great thing about experiementing is that if you make small batches, you don't waste ingredients and you get to try a lot of different things. > I love the Ming Shu fragrance, too! There are a few sites on the internet that break down fragrance ingredients, and many people on the various bath & body related lists have formulated their own versions. It would take some research and probably a lot of experimenting, but it could be possible to do. The first step is identifying the individual scents in the fragrance. Check the packaging to see if any clues are in the product description or ingredient list. You can also try to identify the scents yourself (try putting a few drops on a cotton ball, closing your eyes and sniffing to determine what it is your nose smells). I'm writing this off-liine at the moment, but when I can get back online, I'll see if I can find any info. If you belong to any other lists, ask if anyone knows what the scent blend is. Someone just might know. > I am going " no mail " because I will be in Indiana tomorrow through the 11th. > So take care, guys, and talk to you when I get back! Hope you have fun and enjoy yourself. Another book I need to get. Darn it! Anyway, this should help get that fragrance formulated at home. I think it was Whitney who liked this scent. > Ispahan by Yves Rocher > Top Notes: Aldehydes (main scent), orange, bergamot, fruity note > Middle Note: Carnation (main scent), rose, ylang-ylang, magnolia, jasmine, > cinnamon > Base note: Ambergris (main scent), myrrh, tolu, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, > benzoin, frankincense [snip] Okay, what is aldehydes??? I've never heard of it. It sounds like some chemical (reminds me of formaldehyde, name-wise). Fruity note? Hmmm, could be almost anything. Would suggest trying either a melon or berry, or perhaps a blend. I know of at least 3 suppliers who carry various fruity notes. This is going to take some experimenting. On the rose, since it was mentioned that the fragrance was called Rose Ispahan, I would suggest buying some rose absolute or otto for use in the final formulation. It will give the scent the depth that only the absolute/otto can give. Camden-Grey has sampler packs, one of which includes the rose. The packs have very small amounts, but with rose absolute or otto, you only need one or two drops anyway. I think the pack may also have jasmine absolute. I would use fragrance oils during the experimentation stage, and use the absolutes in the final formula that will be worn. > For a perfume, mix 1 part of your fragrance blend with 4 parts vodka or > grain alcohol or jojoba oil [snip] My personal preference is to use oil. The scent seems to stick around longer. I tend to use a blend of almond, jojoba and vitamin e oils. For anyone who doesn't like the idea of or can't use the alcohol, and don't want to use oil there is a perfume " base " available from some suppliers. I can't remember exactly what it's called at the moment, or which suppliers carry it, but if anyone is interested, give me a holler and I'll check my bookmarked suppliers. I know it's in there somewhere. NightShade
