Hi Darla and everyone in the group,

I've just joined after being recently diagnosed with Chrondromalacia. Over the

last 19 months, I have lost over 30kgs and also started physical activity. I

now do yoga, weight-training, jogging, kickboxing (Muay Thai) and aerobics. The

doc told me I should be jogging (unless on flat surfaces) and should lay-off

step aerobics which I do. I think I'll be okay to continue the aerobics though,

since I have next to no pain after those classes.

However, his concern was with my Muay Thai training. With lots of pivoting

being done on the ball of my left foot (orthodox stance), that means a lot of

twisting in my left knee (I was diagnosed with it in both knees, but my left

knee is far more advanced).

Will wearing a knee brace help? I've heard of this 'J' braces that provide

better lateral stabilisation to the pattella. I have a knee brace with a couple

of velcro straps on it that wrap around your knee and has a small hole for the

patella to move around in. The doc said that it probably wouldn't help but I

wouldn't mind giving myself the extra stability, especially when kickboxing.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know about this group. Your website is excellent

Darla!

Cheers,

Leila.

P.S. Happy New Year to all!
