Guest guest
I am thinking of starting to use a knee brace. Is there anything that I need to know about that? Is it any effective or will it worsen the pain?
Guest guest
It might be better if you could use McConnell tape. That way you can experiment with different positions of your kneecap. Braces usually assume that you just need it held medially, or medially and UP, which is not right in my opinion. Nobody's been able to see that my kneecap moves out of alignment in the usual test, i.e. sitting down with leg straight out relaxed & tightening my quads. However, what I found out yesterday was that the muscles in my hip area fatigue very quickly when I start walking, and that this causes the IT band to contract, which causes the kneecap to move laterally, which causes the chondromalacia spot to rub on the femur, which causes pain, which causes the IT band to contract, which pulls on the hip muscles, which fatigues them, etc. etc. etc. Ann Knee brace > I am thinking of starting to use a knee brace. Guest guest
I wouldn't recommend McConnell taping unless you have been to PT and/or you have been shown where to place it. It also depends on what type of problem you have with the patella itself. Is there a mis-alignment? The McConnell taping hurt my knee and made it unbearable because of the tracking problem I have, and the fact I am grade 3/4, it put two much pressure on my knee itself. McConnell taping is a great thing if it is used for the right problem. That's just my two cents. Mona Re: Knee brace It might be better if you could use McConnell tape. Guest guest
my PT did try McConnell tape and it hurt real bad. She said it would be better to try a brace because that way you have support on the other side, which is the side that hurt a lot with the tape on. also, do we need to have the brace the whole day or just for a few hrs when you are most likely active?? > I wouldn't recommend McConnell taping unless you have been to PT and/or you > have been shown where to place it. Guest guest
The only time I wasn't supposed to wear mine, when I was sleeping or showering - other than that it was all the time. Guest guest
dOES ANYone know what it might mean if i have not had to use my brace as much as before? i was wearing it for almost a year for any activity that involved being on my legs ... but now it causes me pain sometimes and when i take it off its better ... i still need it though at work or to climb stairs etc ...but around the house or for a short walk etc i can go without it .... i was thinkin maybe this means that my muscles are really stronger now in legs ? i did gain 15 pounds which i am tryin to lose again now so maybe its too tight sometimes? anyways get back to me ? ruby2zdy <ruby2zdy@...> wrote:Has anyone found a knee brace that does the following: 1. Velcros around the knee for EZ-on, EZ-off. 2. Has a patella hole. 3. Has a posterior knee opening to keep from irritating the skin there. 4. Has a movable, relatively " hard " , rolled buttress so you can provide resistance to lateral or proximal patellar pull where you need it. 5. Only covers the knee and enough thigh to keep it in place. 6. Doesn't stretch out of shape. 7. Doesn't cost $175. If I could sew I'd just make one. But sewin' ain't my thang.
