Guest guest
That's the catchy title of an audiotape by a Dr. Walach, a veternary doctor known for promoting " colloidal minerals. " A neighbor gave it to me. I listened a couple times and--especially after the glucosamine study published in Lancet--now think the doc is saying a few things I can buy into. Main points, as I remember them:

*Calicium deficiency causes the body to " leach out " calcium from the bones and connective tissue and thus weaken them. It has many other negative effects as well, among them PMS.

*Copper deficiency is a major cause of " elastic tissue breakdown. " That's us.

*The collagen in Knox Gelatin and glucosamine (along, of course, with the colloidal minerals) can help rebuild cartilage.

Wallach has a vast experience with zoo and agricultural animals and much knowledge of human studies. The title comes from Wallach's hobby, collecting obituaries of doctors, whom he claims, live an average of 58 years. He gives many examples of doctors dying prematurely due to conditions easily treatable with vitamin/mineral supplements, treatments used for decades to keep livestock healthy.

Wallach argues, as well, that the four or five longest-lived populations in the world are all mountain communities who drink " glacial milk, " water full of minerals that glaciers have scrapped off of rocks over the eons. I had seen TV documentaries of lean, fit ninety-plus-year-olds in mountain regions. I always thought it had to do with all the hill-climbing (exercise) they had to do.

Meanwhile, he contends, modern farming overworks the soil depleting it of its minerals.

Whatever you think the arguments and research, it's an entertaining tape. It's also free. I got Wallach's company's name, American Longevity, which sells " colloidal minerals " --vitamins and minerals in liquid form--and spoke with one of the reps, Don. He was very knowledgeable about CP. I was impressed enough to give one of the products a shot.

If anyone has an interest, you can find Wallach's 800 number on his website:

http://www.virginearthminerals.com/

Tom
