Guest guest
Since I'll be out of town for 8 days and have no one to baby sit, I have to decide whether to freeze my milk kefir grains again, or put them in milk and refrigerate them, or leave them out on the counter in milk. I've searched previous posts and can't see any definite answer other than dry them (I have no dehydrator). Has anyone ever left them out on the counter in milk for a week or so? Thanks, in Nashville
Guest guest
Hi : I have had great success with freezing the grains. I place them on a plate in the freezer then check them until I know they are frozen then place them in a freezer storage container or bag. Sometimes I have too many grains and this makes it easier to have some ready to store or share when I get an interested friend wanting to start making kefir. The ones I left in the fridge while I traveled seemed harder to come back and I think my milk went bad while they were waking up. I do not have that problem when I freeze them, take them out, and place in jar of milk on the counter. Margy
